Mob Mentality

We all are guilty of herd mentality or what is called mob mentality.

It is a mentality, a behavior, influenced by the action and behavior of people who are around us.

I mean, do we need to go any further to look for this? I don’t think so. All we have to look at ourselves.

Yes, we tend to follow “the pack,” because we are afraid to do or say something different or to be found doing or saying something that nobody is doing or saying.

But is “mob mentality” the teaching of the Bible, to jump and shout “Amen” when everybody around us shouts “Amen?”

Do we take our time to think and analyze what we are listening to before we say “amen?”

Noah would have not built the ark had he led his life like everybody else. Everybody was laughing at him when he built the boat at the presence of ‘not even a trace of rain.’ (Genesis 6)

Abraham would have stayed with his families when God told him to leave his kindred had he decided to do life as everybody else in his neighborhood. (Genesis 12)

If we decide to follow Jesus Christ, we have to know for sure that there will be many times in our lives where the truth of God asks us to say or do things that many people around us are not ‘willing’ to do or say.

That means, mob mentality is a mentality we always need to stand against.

Listen how Wikipedia defines it: “Herd mentality, mob mentality and pack mentality, also lesser known as gang mentality, describes how people can be influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors on a largely emotional, rather than rational, basis.”

It continues to say, “When individuals are affected by mob mentality, they may make different decisions than they would have individually.”

Do you read that?

Actions influenced on an emotional basis! Not on a rational thinking and reasoning!

This is a kind of mentality that forces human beings to act like animals which have no ability to think. No wonder they call it “herd mentality!”

If you want to see a practical example for this, just watch on YouTube where one “I hear directly from God about you” personality standing up on a stage and thousands of people sitting and shouting “amen” to everything he/she says.

And it makes you ask, “Are these people hypnotized so they won’t think and analyze?” ///
