Her Husband’s Crown

The Bible does not say,

“A wife is her husband’s crown.”

Did I get your attention? I hope I did. Yes, it is always good to know the word of God so we can know when we hear it wrongly or falsely.

“A wife is her husband’s crown” means, “any and every wife is her husband’s crown,” but this is now what what the Bible says.

The Bible rather says this:

“A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown,
but a disgraceful wife is like decay (rottenness) in his bones.” Proverbs 12:4

So, there is a specific qualification needed for a wife to be called a crown of her husband. My “wifeness” by itself doesn’t necessarily and automatically make me qualified to be my husband’s crown.

I have to have a noble character before I receive that budge of honor called “Crown of Her Husband.”

St. Peter gives us, wives, the best way to get this budge of honor:

“Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be WON OVER WITHOUT WORDS by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands” 1 Peter 3:1-5 (capitalization is mine)

Wow!

Did you hear that?

“put their hope in God” verse 5 – that is the way women of old adorned themselves and attracted both their man and God at the same time. In the same way, Peter is calling us, wives, to adorn ourselves with this undyingly beautiful and attractive clothing called “a gentle and quiet spirit.”

To wear that clothing, we put our hope in God alone first. We can show to God that we are hoping in Him alone when we strive to live according to His word, means, in this context, when we wives submit to our husbands and stop preaching to them, teaching them and giving them lectures on how they need to dress up, eat healthy foods, drive safe and all that.

Instead we mind our business! Means, we strive to do our calls. We work on our side of the garden, leaving their side to them.

Let me give you one simple example to show you how this plays out in a day to day life:

Most husbands get on their wives’ nerve by eating all kinds of junk foods and drinks. Well, my Baby is not exceptional (but not anymore and I am sharing with you here what I did to change the course of my husband’s junk food eating habits – I mean, he didn’t stop eating junk foods completely but you know, once in a while, we both eat junk):

When your husband wants to eat junk foods all the time, including the leftover junk food from you little kids, let him have them all while you enjoy eating your healthy salad. And on the dining table, you talk about everything except about your salad, how healthy it is and how Omega 3 in your salad helps to lower cholesterol and all that. That is like indirectly giving to your husband Biology 101  class. Even if your husband wants to take this class from you, God didn’t create him to learn from you. (If you want to “hope in God” alone, you just have to accept this truth of God, the way God created our husbands. The word of God may at times feel foolishness to you but regardless of your feeling, follow Him because God is always for you, not against you!)

As you continue eating your salad, adorning yourself with “your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight,” guess what would happen?

Your husband will join you, to devour your salad. Not only your husband, but if you have little ones who are “junk food lovers,” they too start jumping on the bandwagon. Then your ride with your hubby and kids will be fun, enjoyable and memorable and of course you’ll all be healthy!

Then the word of God calls you to give you a badge of honor called “Crown of Her Husband.”

“Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives,  when they see your respectful and pure conduct.” 1 Peter 3:1-2

Why? We wives are created to “influence” our husbands and kids and even our surroundings. When we get intimate with God, the Holy Spirit, the word of God, we influence our surroundings for greater purpose than for eating healthy food! We influence them to bring glory to God alone!

Soli Deo Gloria!

Jesus is the Word! God is His Word. God’s Word is God Himself. God is who He said He is; and God is always behind His words and promises.

Let’s hope in Him alone and we will never be put to shame! Never! ///
