I Know You’re Able

One of my favorite songs of Mercyme, is called “Even if.” I choose this song for that person who is still waiting on God and at the verge of giving up.

My friend, you’re waiting on God, you’re still praying, holding on to your faith. Good for you! It is always good for us to wait on God but we have to always remember that God is a sovereign God. He does what pleases Him, and the one thing that pleases God is seeing His Son, Jesus Christ, being glorified in and through us.

Even if God doesn’t give you what you are asking Him, through this period of waiting, God might be teaching you how to be satisfied in Him alone because you and I the only thing we need in this life is Jesus Christ; the rest are “added things”(Matthew 6:33).

“It was good for me to be afflicted
so that I might learn your decrees.” (Psalm 119:71)

Yes, until we learn how to be satisfied in Jesus alone, even all those added things wouldn’t mean much to us had we have them all. They don’t fully satisfy us. Only Jesus can satisfy us fully! And as John Piper often says, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”

The chorus of “Even if” goes like this:

“I know You’re able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone.”

Yes, our hope is Jesus. Let’s learn to rest in Him alone. He is our Light and Hope when everything looks dark and hopeless.

When King Nebuchadnezzar threatened Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego (three teenagers) to throw them into the fire furnace, they replied to the King, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But EVEN IF HE DOESN’T,” (Daniel 3:17-18a – NLT) we don’t deny Him. Even if He doesn’t answer our prayers, we will continue to believe in Him, to rejoice and satisfy in Him alone.

Oh, may God give us all strength to hold onto the end! ///
