Falling In Love With My Spouse

A4P Guest: I am 37 years old and I have two little kids. I got married 9 years ago. My husband and I used to love each other but lately, I feel like we have no care and love for each other. I mean, we don’t fight or anything but I don’t feel loved by my husband and I think, he feels the same way. How can we bring that first love back into our marriage? Is it even possible? Is there such a thing as falling in love with my spouse?

A4P: Yes, there is! There is what is called falling in love with your spouse and I am glad you ask. Even if you didn’t tell me much about the condition of your marriage, I encourage you to do or not to do the following few things so you ignite that romantic fire.

If you usually compare your husband with your dad, brother, men that you know, stop! Stop comparing your husband with any man. Instead, accept your husband the way he is and appreciate and thank him that he chose to marry you and live with you. I am not asking you here to act but to truly do it. Find the things you appreciate about your husband and tell him. And try to be honest with yourself and see your “not good sides.” Isn’t that amazing that your husband decided not only to marry you but to live with you? So, thank him!

Make your husband your number priority in your life and show that by your action. Make this clear to your kids too that you first listen to your husband, not to them.

Protect your heart and mind so you don’t lust after another man. To do that you need to protect your eyes and ears. Sitting in front of social media for the whole day and trying to talk to your husband respectfully might be impossible. The word of God says,

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.” Matthew 5:27-30 NASB

You know what the word of God is telling us to do here? It tells us to guard our hearts diligently as if our life depends on what comes out of our hearts. It actually depends on it. Listen what Proverbs says,

“Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23 NASB – – – will continue. ///
