Is it only me or do you also thank God for the brothers and sisters in Christ that God has given you? I am very thankful for each one of them! Praise God!
You see, today was a very long and busy day for me, trying to do multiple things at the same time. And what was the result of all that?
Migraine headache!
Well, what do you do when you get migraine headache?
My friend, you do nothing. You go to your bedroom, make the room dark and sleep.
So, I did that. When I woke up around 6pm, I remembered that today was Wednesday, which is a Bible study day.
My whole body was achy and I mean, the migraine didn’t leave my body. So, I said, okay, let me continue sleeping. But I craved to be among believers. I wished to go there by miracle and be among them.
My little one, my Biruk, my youngest son, came to my bedroom and said, “Mom, you have Bible study today.”
I said, “I know but I am not feeling okay.”
He felt sad knowing that Bible study means a lot to me. Then I said, you know what, I will go. I got up and went to the house where we meet to study the Bible.
When I entered the house, I am not lying, my heart was jumping up and down with joy. I rejoiced that God helped me to be among God’s people. The first Wednesday of every month, we pray and today was our prayer time. I got there when they all were on their knees, praising and worshiping God.
I said, “Abba, who am I that You prepare this table before me? Who?”
I was very happy more than I could express. We sang worship songs, we praised God and we shared our prayers and we prayed. I too told them my prayer request. The moment I shared my prayer request with them, I felt like I had already received my request (Mark 11:24).
Praise God!
Driving back home, I thought to myself: How many Christians are out there who don’t have any fellowship with others?
Easy: Many!
How did I know that? I was one of those Christians! Praise God that I am not now.
What were my reasons not to have any fellowship? Many! Like: I don’t have time; I am tired; I have many things to do; I don’t learn anything from them; I study Bible by myself; I don’t like to go and meet people. I rather stay home and read books; – – –
Do you want me to continue?
Yeah, that was me! But not anymore. Praise God!
I now not only go to fellowship with others but also to receive blessing and life that God ordained when brothers and sisters sit together.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity! – – – For there the Lord commanded the blessing—life forever.” (Psalm 133:1-3 NASB)
Did you read that? God commanded or ordered or bestowed “blessing” and “life” forever!
So, I go to sit under this blessing and to receive life in the area of my life where there is no life.
I am telling you, God is who He said He is. God is His word and His word is God Himself (John 1:1). Whatever God says, it is true and it shall come to pass. Let’s take God at His word.
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ but don’t have any fellowship with anybody, I encourage you to find a group of Christians who study the word of God and join them. If you can’t find one, start one in your place.
Sheep live together, not because living with other sheep is always nice and enjoyable but it gives them safety and protection from their enemy. The word of God portrays us as sheep (Psalm 23). Our Shepherd is Jesus Christ (John 10:11-18). And guess who our enemy is?
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
“someone to devour” – not a group of sheep to devour but one sheep who is wandering by itself thinking that it will make it alone.
No, none of us are strong enough to make it alone. We cannot. It is simple as that. How can my kidneys make it if they decide to do life by themselves? They cannot. What about my heart? My brain? My liver?
None of them can make it alone. They have to sit together with the other organs to receive blessing and life that God bestowed on “the body.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-27)
Please, don’t let one day pass you by without you getting up and looking for a group of Christians who meets and studies the Bible weekly. Don’t give yourself any excuse. Going to church is good but I am not talking about that. I’m talking about a group of people that you meet every week and study the Bible together and pray for one another.
You cannot make it alone because God didn’t create you and me in Christ to make it alone. ///
