The Bible is very clear when it comes to giving us detail instructions as to how a person can do dating, courting and marriage according to the will of God.
We just have to first ask ourselves: “Do I want or desire to glorify God in my dating and courting season of life?”
Well, the answer for that question would be “Yes” if we were to ask Christians, followers of Jesus Christ.
But we usually don’t see these Christian couples doing dating and courting thingy in a God-glorifying way. So, we ask, “Why? Why do we see discrepancy between the confession of their faith and their actual lifestyle?”
There might be many reasons.
One reason might be that, most young Christians today don’t know how to do dating purely and righteously because they knowingly or unknowingly neglected the word of God. Why? The probable answer is the fact that social media and all the entertainment industries they allowed themselves to be subjected to have hijacked the truth of God from their hearts, truth that says something like: “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. – – – I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:9, 11)
The other reason is that most young people think that God compromises His standards for the sake of saving many in this last days because life today is getting so complicated and sophisticated that God understands why people have sex before marriage. I know! That is actually a bit funny when we know the truth about God:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8 ESV)
“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19 ESV)
The other reason might be that many young people had learned or known Christ through the law, “Thou shalt not sin! Thou shalt not do sex before marriage,” kind of laws.
My friends, if the law could have successfully taught us to live a pure, godly and holy life, Jesus would have not needed to come down here to save us. We all are famous “law-breakers,” even if we look so pure and holy, especially when we are in church. (Romans 3:23)
The Bible says, “So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”” (Galatians 3:11 NLT) Faith in what? Faith in God, means in the word of God. This faith comes by hearing, reading and studying the word of God, the Bible (Romans 10:17).
So, simply put, none of us can lead a pure and holy life by keeping the law. Therefore, Jesus came to earth to set us all free from being slaves to sin so we can be free to be slaves to righteousness through faith in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:15-23). This faith works only through love (Galatians 5:6). Jesus freed us from the law to love and adore Him (Romans 8:3). That loving relationship with Christ will in turn give us the grace that enables us to lead a righteous life (Titus 2:11-14), a righteous and holy dating and courting life.
Well, that being said, dating can be done in righteous way, not by asking questions such as: “Is it a sin to kiss before marriage? Is it a sin to sleep together without doing sex? Is it a sin to hug for a long time without doing sex? Is it a sin to watch a romantic movie together in his apartment? Is it a sin to talk about sex with my girlfriend,” but, by seeking the way and will of God as we read and study the word of God, that in turn shows and helps us to love and choose the way of a righteous life: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105) ///
