Some people think, all single people are struggling with sexual sin but married people are free from it the day they get married.
Well, it seems like the Bible is saying just that too.
“Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it is good for a man not to touch a woman. But because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:1-2 NASB
So, in a way, the Bible is saying, “Marriage protects you from sexual immorality,” but the word of God never says, “Marriage is a medicine for sexually immoral person.”
This is the difference between prevention and treatment (for the purpose of cure).
Some young people think and believe that the medicine for their porn addiction and any sexual sin struggle is ti get married, right?
Wrong!
Marriage is not made to heal a sexually immoral life. One has to get help for the problem before marriage. If not, the problem creates great havoc in the marriage and lives of the couple and their little ones (if they have kids).
Even after couples did everything they could to do everything right before marriage, they may find themselves in sexual immorality in the marriage.
Why?
Many reasons can be given but the one common one that I see so often is the couple starts off on a good footing but down the road, they slowly change gears and become “friends of this world.”
As Christians, followers of Jesus Christ, little by little, they become customers of this world’s entertainment media (movies and shows which promote nothing but sexual immorality).
Then little by little, they both learn to silence their conscience and make watching sexually explicit shows or movies before they go to bed their new norm. Then the sexual part of their life takes priority over their spiritual life.
The word of God says,
“Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16 NASB
Wow! Did you see that?
Once the love of the world takes root, loving God, seeking Him, striving to know and love Him will become the last of their worries in life.
Then whenever they need peace, joy, rest, love and all those “fruit of the spirit,” guess where they turn to?
The couple turns to their sexual life to see if it can be a source of peace, love and joy. Then to their nightmares, they will be disappointment because “sexual life” without the love and fear of God can only give all “the deeds of the flesh.”
“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:19-23 NASB
God, the Holy Spirit, is the only source of love, joy, peace, and the rest of them. All of them together are not called “fruits” but “fruit of the Spirit.” Do you know why? Because their source is only One; Jesus Christ, the Vine.
So, it is always good to check and see if we’re loving God more by the way we live and staying as far away as we possibly can from this dark world because “all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.” 1 John 2:16 NASB
That is why the Bible says,
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 NASB
“all these things” – which things?
Everything we need in life, including “sexual pleasure,” will be “added” to us as a bonus but only if we make God first in our lives and marriages. Otherwise, we always find ourselves standing at that dry well which can neither give us satiety nor fullness. ///
