In the middle of the hustle and bustle of life, we tend to forget that Jesus is real. But do you know that Jesus Christ is real? Yes, He is! And He is who He said He is.
His last earthly statement was:
“I am with you always” Matthew 28:20
Do you know that if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, He is with you ALWAYS?
Some people say, “Yes, I believe that!” But when you see their lifestyle, you can tell that they don’t really believe that Jesus Christ is with them.
You see, if we believe that Jesus Christ is with us always, our life will totally be different. Let me show you how different your life can be in the life of Joseph.
Some Bible scholars say that Joseph was a 17-year old young man when his brothers sold him to Egypt, where he started working in the house of Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials.
Look what happened to Joseph once he started working there:
“THE LORD WAS WITH JOSEPH so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.” Genesis 39:2-4 (Capitalization is added for the purpose of emphasis)
Everything was going well with him. Then Potiphar’s wife put her eyes on Joseph, the young Israelite. She quickly began to play hanky-panky with him.
Just think for a second: This young man is becoming successful and now a woman is pursuing him for sex. She is offering her body for sex for free, no strings attached.
So she arranged everything: she sent all her servants out for vacation, she chose the right time, a time that her husband would not be home.
I mean, no one was there to witness what was going to happen!
Hello!
Who among young men can turn this offer down? Who?
Joseph not only turned the offer down but he ran away from it, just as it is written in 1 Corinthians 6:18 “Flee[run away] from sexual immorality.”
Why? What was in Joseph’s mind and heart? What is the source of his strength? What was his secret that enabled him to run away from this notorious sin that many, mighty men, like Samson, fell into?
Well, when Potiphar’s wife offered him her body, Joseph said this to her:
“No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” Genesis 39:9
Wow!
For Joseph, God is always with him, watching all his moves.
So, Joseph pretty much said to her, “Yeah right! You think nobody is watching, right? Wrong! God is watching because He is always with me. So, how can I do such a wicked sin in front of His very eyes.”
You know what kind of mind that can think that way?
A mind that is trained to function at the presence of God!
Do you believe the Son of God is with you every second of your life? Do you live life knowing that Jesus Christ is with you? Do you often talk to Him as if He is physically with you?
Savoring Jesus’ tangible presence every second of your life is the only source of strength that enables you to say “No!” to sin and run away from it. The pleasure of His presence supersedes the fleeting pleasure of sin:
“You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 ESV ///
