The word of God talks about two houses, one built on sand and the other one built on the rock (Matthew 7:24-27).
Those two houses was hit with the same rain and wind that beat against those two houses. The Bible tells us, the first house “did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Verse 25b But the second house “fell with a great crash.” Verse 27b
So, we ask, what is sand and what is rock?
Jesus Christ is the Rock!
“There is no one holy like the Lord;
there is no one besides you;
there is no Rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2
Paul writes about the Israelites:
“They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10:4
Amen!
Building a house on the rock means, building our marriages on Jesus Christ who is “the way and the truth and the life.” John 14:6
(Sand simple means a crashed down rock. So, a house that is built on sand is built on few Bible verses or fragments of verses.)
Whenever we choose to hide anything from our spouse, guess what we are doing?
We are building our marriages on sand.
Yes, I am talking about yesterday’s post. I was dumbfounded this morning to read a number of “Please don’t tell your husband” kind of comments to the woman of the story.
And some people said something like, “If you receive forgiveness from God, that is enough.”
Really? That is all we need to do in our marriages? What is marriage then? Marriage is a symbol of the yet to come marriage between Jesus Christ and the church, am I right?
So, what if Jesus lied to us, the church? Just think about it and I will leave that question to you and go to the next one.
After reading a number of comments on yesterday’s post, I asked: Is this culture influencing people to think this way or fear because the counsel of the word of God cannot teach anyone to hide the truth.
Confession and restitution are part of our journey with Jesus Christ and with our life partners, otherwise we are not building our homes on the Rock but on sand, fragments of the truth.
Jesus, the Rock, is the Truth. When we choose to lie and push the truth under the rug, we are saying to Jesus, “You are not welcomed here because You are not safe for the well-being our families and marriages.”
When we throw “the Truth” out of our marriages, we are also throwing away “the Way and the Life” because Jesus Christ is not only the Truth but also the Way and the Life. So, we pretty much left with darkness.
And guess who lives in the dark? I leave that question to you.
Yes, it is very risky for the woman to confess of her sin to her husband. I am glad we all are on the same page when it comes to this. It is good to understand what “sin” is. Until we get that, our suggestions and ideas regarding life issues that involve sin will distort and twist the truth of God.
When we choose the truth, we are choosing Jesus Christ.
Is it safe to choose Jesus Christ in this world?
Our answer to that question will help us to see whether we are with the truth or not.
No! It is not safe to choose Jesus Christ. If it seems safe to us today, it won’t be safe tomorrow. If we always tend to downplay the truth, we may get confused by me saying, “It is not safe to choose Jesus Christ.”
Jesus said, “Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.” John 15:20
Choosing Jesus Christ is not a one-time deal too but it is something we do every second of our waking life. We choose Him or we reject Him and we call that “a sin.”
When we want to make our intimacy right with Christ, we confess our sin to Him and receive our forgiveness. But, since we live with others, we go ahead and ask the people we wronged to forgive us too.
The Bible says, “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23-24
Forgiveness and love go hand in hand.
We cannot love God and hate the people we do life with.
“If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?” 1 John 4:20
Our love and devotion to others are the mirror reflection of our love and devotion to God! The way we view “truth” in our lives is the mirror reflection of what we believe about the “T” Truth in our hearts.
God does not accept our prayers, worship and thanksgiving until we make things right with the people we see and do life with. This is the Truth! Until we embrace this truth, as followers of Jesus Christ, we live in spiritual torment because of shame, guilt, anxiety, terror, condemnation and so on and so forth.
Why?
Our enemy can get a foothold on our lives when we reject the truth.
Yes, it is even life threatening to choose the truth, Jesus Christ. But once we choose the truth, our Advocate will be Jesus Christ. Who do we need more than Jesus Christ in this life? No one!
“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 ESV
I know, some of you are scared for the woman and her little ones and you wanted to make sure that she and her little ones are safe.
But what is “safety” without Jesus Christ taking the lead?
Or, are we trying to protect the woman from facing the consequences of her sin?
Hmm!
For our own goodness, even our God, our Heavenly Father, the One who loved us so much to give us His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us on the Cross, will not save us from the consequences of our sins.
And our Heavenly Father is Sovereign. He is faithful not to let us go through something we cannot handle. He also has power to put a limit to what and how much to reap as a result of our sin.
But no matter what, we choose the truth.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego chose the truth and they were threatened by the king that they would be thrown into the blazing furnace unless the bowed down and worshiped the king’s image. This was how they replied to the king: “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.””
For them to escape the blazing furnace, Shadrach, Meshach and Abenego were supposed to reject the truth, kneel down and worship the idol. I mean, after all, faith lives in our hearts, right?
Wrong!
Unless our faith is expressed in action, it is not faith. It is dead faith or it is not present in us at all!
For Jesus to escape the cross, all he had to do was reject the truth and say something like: “Oops! Sorry! I was lying to you all. I am not the Son of God but the son of Joseph and Mary as you all know.”
But Jesus chose the truth and died on the cross for you and me.
Jesus Christ is not a religion but He is the Life and there is no life apart from Him. Jesus Christ is the Way to go to the Father for He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
So, my beloved friends, this is what I am trying to say today:
Let’s all choose Life! Let’s all strive to make sure that we choose light in all our life dealings. If we are married, let’s strive to build “our houses” on the Rock, on Christ Jesus. Hiding anything from our spouses makes our marriages to be built on sand. Let’s learn to confess and restitute or rebuild our marriages. After all, we all are broken people. None of us can speak before God about our righteousness because we have none. If so, why do we expect our life partners to be better than all of us? What do we have other than the mercy and grace of God in this life? We have none!
So, please, if you are the spouse of the person who was wronged but still don’t know anything about it, please, I beg you in the name of our merciful God, be willing to hear the story and forgive your wife/husband and continue building your marriage on Truth. Your spouse is dying because of “the lie she/he didn’t share with you.” Please set the prisoner free!
Jesus Christ set you free, didn’t He?
So, do the same to your spouse. Let her/him live in freedom! ///
