A4P Guest: Once you lose your soulmate, what is the meaning of life?
A4P: Wow! That sounds very sad! Tell me a little bit about how you lost your soulmate?
A4P Guest: He cheated on me and I was very upset with him and ignored him for a month. I was expecting him to call or something but he disappeared. Then I heard that he got married. Now I don’t want to live.
A4P: Hold on a second. Maybe you will want to live when we finish talking. I mean, were you married to him?
A4P Guest: I wish! We were just dating.
A4P: Then how do you know that he is your soulmate?
A4P Guest: Even if I knew it was a sin, I slept with him and he took my virginity.
A4P: Oh my! And?
A4P Guest: And he is my soulmate.
A4P: I am confused here. Help me. What is the meaning of a soulmate?
A4P Guest: The person you love and sleep with.
A4P: Where did you find that definition from?
A4P Guest: There is this guy in our church who teaches about marriage and opposite sex relationships. I heard him say that and I always experienced it.
A4P: You experienced what?
A4P Guest: What a soulmate feels like.
A4P: How does it feel like?
A4P Guest: I constantly think about him. I sometimes wish that his wife dies so I marry him.
A4P: Wow! Have you also thought of killing her?
A4P Guest: No!
A4P: Good! Listen, young lady: This concept or idea of “soulmate” originated from Eastern religions as other many of Easter religion “love concepts” find their way into the church such as “you are half and until you find your other half, you will be miserable and sad.” And these concepts are very far from the teaching of the Bible.
There is no for example “a soulmate” kind of concept or teaching in the Bible.
The Bible simply said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24ESV
A woman will be one with the man she is married to. Jesus said,
“Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthews 19:4-6 NKJV
Paul writes:
“Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh .” But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:16-20 NASB1995
As you can see from the above passages sinful “oneness” is not upheld or considered as a righteous deed in the face of God or word of God. Instead it has to be confessed and denounced.
Just because you sinfully slept with him doesn’t mean you are one with him for life.
And if you want to use the word a soulmate biblically, your soulmate is going to be the man you marry legally before man and God.
The man you slept with is married. Now thinking and dreaming about him is nothing but a waste of time and energy.
Instead, find a Bible believing and teaching church and learn about Christ and how to follow Him faithfully.
By the way, I am glad you didn’t marry that guy! He used you and dumped you like trash. You shouldn’t call this kind of man your soulmate. You’re worth more than you think. ///
