Or, does “love” make some people stupid?
I am not really sure.
Listen to this:
So, a girl comes up to you and tells you about the person she is planning to marry. You ask her lots of questions to learn about the man. Then from what she tells you, you say:
“Well, sweetheart, the man doesn’t respect you; he cares less to what you’re feeling nor saying; he forced you to have sex against your moral stand; he then forced you to do abortion and he has absolutely no remorse whatsoever. Now you are planning to marry him? By marrying him, you cannot change a thing about him except making it all worse! I don’t think it is a good idea for you to marry him.”
Guess how she replies?
“But I love him.”
Won’t you ask, “What does that mean?”
I don’t blame you!
I mean, is love stupid or does love make some people stupid?
Neither!
What I think is this: Some people don’t know how to label or give name to their emotions and feelings.
For example, the above girl thinks something like this:
“If I don’t get married now, next year, I will be 30 and I will have more wrinkles. What if no man asks me for marriage after that? What if I end up being single for life, the kind of life I dread to have?”
So, she hurries to marry the guy and when somebody confronts her with facts, she says, “But I love him.”
But that is the wrong answer.
The right answer is, “I am afraid for my future.”
If she learns how to correctly label her emotion, she can get help, don’t you think so? I think so.
If she comes up to you and says that she is afraid for her future, you will definitely give her this:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:4-7)
No, love is not stupid and love does not make anyone stupid. ///
