A man who has been married for 20 years asked an 82 year old elderly woman about her marriage. She has been married for 62 years with her high school sweetheart. A man asked her what their marital secret is for their marriage to last that long.

She replied back to him saying, “I treat him like a king and he treats me like a queen.”

Hmm, it sounds pretty and sweet, doesn’t it? Sure; it can happen. She treats him like a king and her treatment itself encourages him to treat her back like a queen.

But is that always the outcome of treating others right? Do all husbands treat their wives like a queen if their wives treat them like a king? I wonder.

Yes, “I treat him like a king and he treats me like a queen” sounds good but if the reason I treat and love my man like a king is because he treats and loves me like a queen, I am nothing but a loser before God because the Bible says, “But I tell you, love your enemies – – – If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?” Matthew 5:44, 46

I think and believe the motivation for me to love and treat my man like a king should be “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” Matthew 7:12

That principle is known as “A Golden Rule.” Why is it called golden? Because, for example if a husband treats his wife like a queen and if she doesn’t treat him like a king in return, he loses nothing as gold won’t lose a thing when it passes through fire! Why? Because he receives a fulfilling love he desires from God! Why? Because he fulfills Christ’s love!

Yes, I should strive to treat, honor, respect and love my man like a king but not so that he treats me back like a queen but so that I be right before God; so that in return I be contented and fulfilled even when my man is unable to love or treat me back like a queen. ///
