The first, well at least, one of the first Gospel songs I was introduced to after I came to Christ Jesus (or, I will say, after God drew me to Christ Jesus, according to John 6:44) is this:
“I surrender all
I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Savior
I surrender all” by CeCe Winans
Oh, my! You have no idea how much I love this song.
But as days went by, I began asking myself: Do I really surrender all to God?
And even now my sobering reply to my own question is this: No!
The truth is I don’t surrender “ALL” to God that easily.
And when I don’t surrender all to God, “Worry” can easily replace God in my life and be my god.
Is worry good for me?
Not at all!
And when I read the word of God, it sometimes sounds as if God has no clue what is going on in this life.
Listen:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing?????
Yes, for nothing!
Then what do I need to do?
Surrender ALL to God in prayer and enjoy the peace of mind that God promises to give to all who present their requests to Him in prayer.
Is that a sign of a responsible person?
That and more! It’s the sign of a spiritually matured person, a person who knows God and His words and trusts them both.
And the word of God again says,
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. ” 1 Peter 5:6-7
Wow! Casting all my anxiety on Him??? Leaving nothing for me???
Nothing! Mine is simple to a lead an “anxiety free” and peaceful life!
Phew!
How can I do that?
By constantly doing this, without losing heart: LOOKING UP!
That means, by clinging to God’s word as if my life depended on it (and the truth is, my life surely does depend on the promises/words of God).
Looking around is a source of discouragement; looking inside, looking into my own life is a source of depression because nothing seems to take the image of Christ.
But looking up — oh hallelujah! — looking up is a source of hope and help. When I gaze on Christ, I see hope and find help for all my fears and cares.
That is why David said:
“I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2
The other way of saying “Looking up or lifting up my eyes” (means doing this in all times) is “SURRENDERING ALL TO JESUS CHRIST!”
Praise God! ///
