The whole day today, I was meditating on this verse:-
“The Lord is my shepherd” Psalm 23:1a
“My” shepherd! It is not like, the LORD is a Shepherd.
Instead, “The LORD is “MY” Shepherd!” Praise God! He is mine and I am His!
And when I say, “The LORD is my Shepherd,” in effect, I am saying, “I am my Shepherd’s sheep.”
And if I am a sheep, I am not a sheep to my Shepherd but He owned me. And since no shepherd gets possession of sheep for free, I didn’t just happen to be my Shepherd’s sheep for free. He paid a price to make me His sheep. So, I am valuable Him.
Listen:-
“18 Flee sexual immorality. Every other sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought for a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NASB
Wow! Did you see it?
Since I am bought by a price, I am not even my own. I am owned by the One who bought me for a price.
You may ask, “What was the price?”
Read this:-
“17 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. ” 1 Peter 1:17-19 NASB
The price was the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Yeah, I am very expensive and valuable for Him. So, God holds me tight.
No wonder Jesus said,
“27 My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”” John 10:27-30 NASB
No wonder the writer of Proverbs said,
“The wicked flee when no one pursues,
but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Proverbs 28:1 ESV
They are bold because they know who their Shepherd is!
By the way, the word of God is not written for me only but for all who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. So, where you read “I,” add your name and read the truth of God to yourself and know that God is your Shepherd and you are His sheep. No one can snatch you out of your Shepherd’s hands.
What is the moral of today’s message then?
Simple!
Be still and know that God is your Shepherd (Psalm 46:10). ///
