Jesus said, “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven” Matthew 6:19a
Our Father!
If I call God, “My Father,” who do I consider myself as?
As His daughter, His child.
So, saying, “I choose God to be my Heavenly Father,” is like saying, “I can choose my earthly parents.”
Do you see my point?
None of us got a chance to choose our earthly parents. We just found ourselves being our parents’ children.
If we cannot choose our parents, it is crazy to think that we can choose to be children of the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
So, David sang:
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people he chose for his inheritance.” Psalm 33:12
King David says in short: Human beings cannot choose themselves to be children or people of God. It is God who chooses His children/people. Not the other way round.
So, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, born of the Spirit of God, you are a child of God, not because you chose to be one but because God hand picked you and chose you to be His child.
Isn’t that a mind blowing and awe-inspiring reality of all born-again Christians! It s the reason to be lost in awe of God for choosing us to be His inheritance among other many good people.
Listen what the Bible says about “us” whom God has chosen to be His people:
“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”” 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
Praise God!
Oh, God forbid that we who are in Christ boast in nothing but in the Lord Jesus Christ. ///
