Marriage is a covenantal institution of one man and one woman. This institution is not one of man’s inventions. It is created by God Himself. This is one of the basic truths of God we always need to remind ourselves.

God created us, man and woman, in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). We are honorable creatures of God because we carry His image. And God created for us, His honorable creatures, an honorable institution called Marriage!

The Bible says,

“Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” Hebrews 13:4NASB

Why?

This institution is created by God having an eternal and sacred plan and purpose in mind. At the end of this life, there will only be one marriage in heaven between one Man and one Woman (between Christ and the Church). Until the end comes, God designed a “one-man-one-woman institution” on earth to reflect the yet to come eternal marriage between Christ and the Church.

The word of God reads,

“Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he *said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” And he *said to me, “These are true words of God.” Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he *said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.””  Revelation 19:6-10NASB

Praise God!

At the finale of this life, there will be a wedding we all look forward to, the wedding of the Lamb[Jesus] and His Bride[the Church]. This eternal holy Matrimony is now found on this earth reflected and exemplified by a one-man and a one-woman institution called marriage.

Do you see the sacredness nature of marriage on this earth? Do you see what kind of “eternal stamp” a marriage of one man and one woman is sealed with?

Paul calls married people to live like this:

“Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5:22-27NASB

Do you see it?

Therefore the meaning of marriage can only be found in God, in His Holy Word. And this sacred institution called marriage is created for honorable creatures of God, for their goodness and wellness, as a good fertile land for their seeds to grow and thrive and for the glory of God as the marriage reflects the glory of the only Marriage that is yet to come!

So, if a young Christian man has no understanding of this truth about his nature, his sexual nature, and how God created him to get into this “one-man and one-woman” institution to honor himself, others and glorify God, the only option left for him is to live like animals, following his own feelings and instincts. And if he lives like animals, seeking marriage might be a risky thing because marriage is only compatible with an honorable human nature, not with an animal nature.

The word of God says,

“Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. . . Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.” Psalm 49:12, 20KJV

The man might be educated and financially well off in this material world but if he has no knowledge and understanding of these truths of God about his life and his sexual nature, he lives his life “like the beasts that perish.” And when this same man decides to enter an institution called marriage, he finds it hard to enjoy it. He gets bored and when he faces life challenges such as erectile dysfunction, he blames his wife for it and/or looks for his ex-sexual-partners or browse on social media to see if something he sees will “jazz-up” his boring life.

Tragedy! Tragedy! Tragedy!

So God says this to us through His word:

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding,
Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check,
Otherwise they will not come near to you.” Psalm 32:8-9NASB

And,

“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel,

“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit,
Who leads you in the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17NASB

So, my friend, let’s go back to our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s humble ourselves and sit at the feet of His word and learn from Him for there is no meaning and purpose for this life apart from Him and His word. ///
