Let’s not hold back from doing simple gestures of love to those who are living with us, such as our spouses and kids.
Most of us are good at surprising others with a simple and spontaneous gesture of love, but we find it hard to do this to the people who matter most in our lives.
The gesture can be as simple as saying; “I prayed for you this morning for God’s favor to rest on you,” or, as big as saying “I will be your servant today for the whole day. Just let me know what you want me to do for you.”
For some reason we can say to our pastors, “Just call me whenever you need me,” but when it comes to our spouses who have a big part in our lives, we find it hard to say and do this. But it shouldn’t be. We need to learn that at home first.
Well, how do we learn to do that?
Simple!
By getting up and doing it. Remember, we don’t follow our emotions and feelings; rather, we follow our decisions to do what is right whether we feel like it or not. And eventually, our feelings and emotions start to follow our good deeds.
But if we continue showing this kind of kindness and love everywhere but in our home, we show to God that we are phonies, nothing but good actors. And God doesn’t want actors but disciples, who are faithful with small things (not with loving all the people of the world but first loving those one, two, or even ten people we live with).
This is the fundamental spiritual principle we need to get under our belt:
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” Luke 16:10 NLT
Whatever spiritual discipline we need to have, we need to train ourselves up in it first in our home. We have to get it right there before we find ourselves trying to do it outside of our home. ///
