Somebody says to me, “In our church we decided to keep ourselves clean and pure!”
I was like, “Really? Where is that church? I want to be part of that church to see how the hands of God tumbling down the mountain y’all try to build.”
Here is my favorite story in the Bible regarding this issue:
“Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. The Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.” Genesis 11:1-9 NASB
Do you see that?
They want to build a massive mountain for the glory of their names.
Do you know that we all sometimes try to do the same thing?
Yes, we do!
Without leaning on God to keep us holy and acceptable before the Father, we try to come up with ways and strategies to keep ourselves pure and holy. And we want to make our ways and strategies famous.
“Purity Ring” they call it; some call it, “Abstinence until marriage.” What is the end result of all these movements?
Read the above passage. The end is the same!
Purity does not need any movement because it is a love story between Christ and the individual for the glory of God.
The key is the glory of God, because God recreated us in Christ for one purpose only: “To make a name for Himself.” This is the one theme you read throughout the Bible.
Our rest, joy and hope are hidden in the glory of the name of God! Do you know that?
David knew this truth all along! When he sinned, sleeping with a wife of one of his best soldiers, he said, “Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge.” Psalm 51:4 NASB
Why?
David knew that God’s name was attached to his life! The glory of God was at stake!
That’s why David sang:
“He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3NASB
Yes, praise God! God fights for us for His name’s sake.
So we rest in Him knowing that He keeps us holy to the end:
So Paul writes:
“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” Jude 1:24-25 NASB
So don’t follow any movement thinking that the movement will keep you holy and pure; rather rest in Christ knowing that He will fight for you for His glory. Learn to trust Him. His is a warrior! ///
