Conditioned Mind

Before I go to the main point I want to make today, let me define the word “conditioned” so that it will set a stage for me to build my case.

The word conditioned is defined as: “characterized by a predictable or consistent pattern of behavior or thought as a result of having been subjected to certain circumstances.”

My interest of phrase from the above definition is this: “having been subjected to certain circumstances.”

Whether we like it or not, when we consistently let our ears and eyes subject to certain information, our minds get conditioned; our thinking patterns get conditioned to the point of conforming to the information we let ourselves being exposed to.

For example, when we expose ourselves to romantic books, movies and shows of this world, we let those things condition our minds in the area of romance. So for example a young man who watches romantic movies such as Titanic, wastes his time waiting for such a girl who crosses his path and SUDDENLY causes him leg paralysis with her beautiful face, long and slender posture and long hair.

Or a girl who watches those colorful romantic and musical shows wastes her youthful ages looking for that romantic, flawless man who sweeps her off of her feet and takes her to his “mother’s bedroom” to make her his.

Or a man who keeps on divorcing his wives wastes his life looking for that perfect wife who give him 100% “carefree” life as he always watches on one of his favorite TV shows.

Or a married woman who is always preoccupied with sexual fantasies of enjoying sex with another man than her husband as she always watches those men do it to their women on one of sexually explicit TV shows

And the list goes on and on and on!

That might be the main reason for the church to be a laughing matter in today’s society; for us the church people bringing our worldly conditioned minds to the church of Christ and trying to be Christians.

But Christianity is a life that can only be lived by the person whose mind is conditioned by the Word of God.

That is why the Bible says: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Wow! Did you see that!

Until we get our minds conditioned by the Word of God, we remain to be “Christ’s Fans.” We will never be His Disciples. It is our call not only to believe in Christ Jesus but also to be Christ’s Disciples so that we know how to carry our crosses (Luke 14:27).

For us to be disciples of Christ, we have to say “No” to be consumers of this world (1 Corinthians 9:27); we need to say “No” to all worldly shows which have a power to condition our minds to the point of making us puppets and jokes of this world (Titus 2:11-12). And we need to say “Yes” to the daily prayer, reading of the Bible, studying and meditating of the Word of God and worshiping and seeking God with other true believers. Then perhaps as the Bible says, we may be light to the dark, help to the helpless and hope to the hopeless! ///
