Happy Mother’s Day!
I know I already said, “Happy Mother’s Day” to all of you mothers, but I wanted to say it again and share with you something.
Being a mother is not an easy call. On the top of that, our natural wiring doesn’t make our call any easier.
When it comes to living with us
women, the word of God advises our husbands like this:
“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” 1 Peter 3:7
Key phrase is “the weaker partner.”
We mothers, women, are emotionally wired so we can play our role of mothering wonderfully, but at the same time, our wiring makes us “the weaker partner” compared to our counterparts, our husbands.
We worry too much, we fear more than men do. It is usually hard for us to find comfort when things go south. The worry of COVID-19, the worry about tomorrow, is taking a toll on us. I mean, our men worry too but because of our nature, our worry is a bit too much and we worry about every little things.
So, I, the mother of three young beautiful people, want to share with mothers where I strive to draw comfort from.
Paul writes: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. ” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Amen! With the same comfort the Spirit of God is comforting me, I want to comfort you.
The Bible says:
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.” Psalm 20:7-8
Amen!
Some may draw comfort from what they have, a good savings account and personal properties that they can liquidate at any time but we, praise God, we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
The Bible says:
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10
Hallelujah!
So, I want to share with you how the Holy Spirit is showing me to practically draw comfort from the name of God.
God has many names that we find in the Bible. If you Google “the names of God,” you can find a ton. (But be very careful that you won’t land on websites where the names of God are interpreted in ways to make you fall in love with this dark and material world).
I want to share with you six of God’s names that I often tend to draw comfort from:
1. Jehovah Shalom:
The LORD is peace!
“But the Lord said to him [Gideon], “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.”
So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.” Judges 6:23-24
Gideon was scared and was surrounded by scary situations but God, praise God, but God, Jehovah Shalom, appeared to him and gave him peace.
So, when your mind and spirit are disturbed with the things you hear, see and feel, remember that the name of God, Jehovah Shalom, is a strong tower. You can run to it and be safe. Praise God!
2. Jehovah Raah:
The LORD is my Shepherd!
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” Psalm 23:1
This Shepherd that you see in Psalm 23 is not just a shepherd who watches after the sheep. He is very close to His sheep. He not only shepherds, but protects them. He always finds a place for the sheep to take a good rest, always providing to His sheep.
So, when you have this fear of not having enough, when you feel like you have no one to watch over you and your household, remember that the name of God, Jehovah Raah, is a strong tower. You can run to it and be safe! Praise God!
3. Jehovah Tsidkenu:
The LORD our Righteous!
“In his days Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The Lord Our Righteous Savior.” Jeremiah 23:6
“In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will live in safety.
This is the name by which it will be called:
The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’” Jeremiah 33:16
Amen!
Sometimes we look at ourselves and feel discouraged. Our “not-so-good characters” don’t seem to go anywhere no matter how hard we pray and fast. We see no progress in our Christian walk. And the devil comes to make our situations worse saying things such as: “I told you, you are not a Christian. You don’t deserve to call the name of God. You are ____.” You can imagine what horrible things he convinces you that you are.
Well, the Bible says:
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10
Praise God!
So, when we find ourselves in this kind of situation, we remember that the name of the LORD, Jehovah Tsidkenu, is a strong tower and we run to it and be safe!
Jesus Christ is our righteousness! God sees us through Christ. He always sees us as if we had the same righteousness Jesus Christ has. Praise God!
4. Jehovah Jireh:
The LORD will provide!
“Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. . . Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”” Genesis 22:7-8, 13-14
Praise God!
We have absolutely nothing to worry about: what we eat, wear or have. For our Provider is there to meet all our needs.
So when you worry about how you and your household, remember, the name of the LORD, Jehovah Jireh, is a strong tower. You can run to it and be safe! Praise God!
5. Jehovah Mekoddishkem:
The LORD who Sanctifies you!
““But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.” Exodus 31:13 NASB
“You shall keep My statutes and practice them; I am the Lord who sanctifies you.” Leviticus 20:8 NASB
Praise God!
You see, it is not us who can sanctify ourselves, but God. The devil always wants us to believe that we are the ones who need to do everything to sanctify ourselves so God can accept us.
That is one of the devil’s biggest lies!
We cannot sanctify ourselves. It is God who sanctifies us.
So, when we feel discouraged seeing our lives and the progress we make in our walk as a Christian, we remember that the name of the LORD, Jehovah Mekoddishkem, is a strong tower. We can run to it and be safe! Praise God!
6. Jehovah Shamma:
The LORD is there!
Praise God!
“The city shall be 18,000 cubits round about; and the name of the city from that day shall be, ‘The Lord is there.’”” Ezekiel 48:35 NASB
We usually worry, am I right? We worry about where our kids go, what they do and think, we worry about their well-being and all.
We also worry about death, the journey to get there (the process of dying) and all. But whenever we find ourselves worrying like that, we should remember that the name of the LORD, Jehovah Shamma, is a strong tower. We can run to it and be safe! Praise God!
I hope this comforts your soul and spirit. Running to the names of God is always the source of my comfort. ///
