Sometimes in the middle of counseling, I ask this question, “So, who do you want to be in the next 10 years or so?”
The response I always get is something like, “I want to be a person who loves and serves God and others with everything I am and with everything I have.”
So, my follow-up question is, “So, what are you doing today to get there then?”
Why am I asking that? Well, for all the counseling sessions to be effective and fruitful, the person I am counseling primarily needs to know that there is what is called “the law of sowing and reaping.” Knowing this fact will help the person change his/her course or direction of life for good!
Law of sowing and reaping will never, ever, go away from this life. We reap what we sow.
We shouldn’t expect to harvest apples after we sow oranges. That can only happen in our wildest dream, not in real life.
For the reason I’m not aware of, some people think and believe if they PRAY HARD, they can harvest apples after they sow oranges.
The Word of God says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7)
This verse says to me something like this: Missy, you are mocking God when you sow something and PRAY to reap something else than the seed you sow. Scary!
A farmer doesn’t pray for God to change the seed he sowed but he prays for God to give the seed growth! Sowing and watering the seed is our part; giving growth to the seed we planted is God’s part! (1 Corinthians 3:6) God never mixes these things up; and He doesn’t wants us to mix them up either.
So, my friend, let me ask you this same question I asked myself this Sunday morning: “What are you sowing in your life today?”
The Word says this: “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:8)
The one best and sure way to sow to please the Spirit is to sit and study the Word of God. And the other way is by going to church to worship God in spirit and truth with other believers (John 4:24).
So, let’s all go to the house of God today and use every second of our stay there to sow to please the Spirit. ///
