A4P Guest: I was addicted to so many things including the stuff you usually talk about. I am afraid if I can say, I’m completely free from it all. In my church, a guest speaker was invited like six months ago and he prayed for me. First, I felt something leaving my body and I was slain in the spirit. I felt so good and went home and was free from everything for a couple months or so. Then I found myself going back to it in full force and I don’t know now what to do. Do you think it is because of my unbelief? Do you think the minister who prayed for me might not be from God? I still believe that Jesus heals and I still believe in the power of Christ. What do you think is going on with me?
A4P: Well, first, I have no way of knowing whether the man who prayed for you is from God or not.
Second, many things can be going on with you and I have no way of knowing that. But from what you’ve told me, I believe I can say this.
I believe that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever! (Hebrews 13:8) That means, if Jesus healed someone miraculously 2000 years ago, He can do the same thing today. So, in short, I believe in miracles. God still heals people from all sorts of sickness and struggles.
But I don’t believe, not even for a second, that Jesus makes anyone a disciple of God by miracle.
You know why I don’t believe that?
Well, Jesus never made anyone a disciple of God by miracle. Jesus called eleven men (not considering Judas Iscariot), then He taught these men for three years. Then His teaching, the Truth, made each one of those men disciples of God.
So, this is what I advise you to do: Go to the nearest Bible teaching and believing church and learn how to follow Jesus Christ. Sit under the feet of those who teach you the word of God; not so that they can teach you how to feel the truth of God but to help you “KNOW” the truth of God; because the Bible doesn’t say, “Feel the truth of God and your feeling will set you free.”
“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will KNOW the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32 – capitalization is mine)
Notice, Jesus was speaking to those who believed in Him but were not yet committed to follow Him.
Read also the following passage carefully:
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” (Matthew 12:43-45)
May the LORD give you insight in all this, especially as to what an “unoccupied, swept clean and put in order” house looks like. ///
