The Creator of Marriage

On Friday, June 26, 2015 the U. S. Supreme Court redefined the once used to be known as “marriage between one man and one woman” to mean any form of relationship.

I mean, nothing can be further from the truth. The Creator of man and woman is God and guess what? God is the Creator of the one-flesh relationship called marriage. I mean, anybody can redefine this and use their definitions in whatever way they want but the truth reads like this:

“Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. . . So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones,
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:7, 21-24 NASB

Did you see that?

Let me tell you something? This is not a fairy tale. Rather this is the “T” truth!

God is our Creator and once “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27), God created one institution called marriage where one man and one woman become, not like one but, ONE!

This one-flesh relationship is a unique one, the only one of its kind as it brings forth another human being(s) to this earth. Beautiful, isn’t it?

But there is one thing we need to notice here:

God didn’t just create us or anything for that matter for fun. He created everything for Himself.

Listen:

“For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.” Colossians 1:16NASB

And,

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:36NASB

What does “for Him” mean? It means for His glory!

So, anything, visible and invisible, created by God can only find its purpose of existence only if it glorifies its Creator.

The same can be said about human race and marriage between one man and one woman.

Augustine of Hippo said, “Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”

No human soul knows peace, rest and joy apart from its Creator. The same is true about marriage.

Marriage between one man and one woman, the one-flesh relationship, the institution God Himself created can only know peace, joy, rest and happiness only if God takes the center of that marriage.

It is God who puts the two as one. Listen,

Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?” And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”” Matthew 19:3-7NASB

And God does not have any part in separating man from his wife. Divorce is not what God does but what God permits for man to do to a marriage where one party (husband or wife) is sexually immoral. Otherwise, making the two one is always God “doing” whether we know it or not.

(And by the way, every human being comes to this earth by the will of God by joining the two as one. And every human being carries the image of God. This is the one simply way we understand how abortion at any point in pregnancy, from 24 hours of conception to 9 month gestation, is considered as murder, murdering a human being who carries the image of God. Plan B or Post Pill is an abortion pill. Let those who have ears hear!)

So, unless we married people return back to the Creator of us and our marriages, decide to make Him the center of first, our individual life and then, the center of our marriage and home, we cannot glorify God and since we are created by God for God, the same with our marriage, when we don’t glorify Him, we get hurt. It is like trying to use our iPhone while swimming. iPhone is not created for that purpose, to be used in the water. Our purpose as Christians, married or single, is glorifying God and we can only glorify God when we come to know Him according to His word and strive to live according to His word. ///
