That sounds paradoxical, doesn’t it? But, it is not paradoxical. Satan doesn’t like anything or anybody that becomes a reason to bring glory to God and His Truth. And that is exactly what sex is.
Buckle your seat belt and continue reading.
Does sex bring glory to God? Yes, it does.
Sex is the only “one” possible way two people, one woman and one man, can become one. God created Adam and saw that it was not good for Adam to be alone (Genesis 2:18). So God took Eve out of Adam, “fashioned” her and gave her to Adam as “a suitable helper”. Because she was taken from Adam (from one of his bones), the Bible says: “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)
Mind you, it doesn’t say “they are as if they were one”. Rather, it says “they become one flesh”. When God sees a married couple, He sees them as one, as one man, Adam (who was in the beginning created by the likeness and image of God – before his bone was taken). Their oneness through sexual intimacy is the reflection of the original Adam.
As a father delights in seeing his image and likeness in his son, can you just imagine how grateful God would be when He sees His original masterpiece, Adam, being put back together in sexual intimacy? Yes, when one man and one woman, through covenant and sexual consummation, become one, they reflect the image of the original Adam back to God.
The other beautiful truth about sex is this: Marital sexual oneness is a reflection of the last chapter of Christianity. When we read the book of Revelation, we read that there is one dinner party we all are waiting for. It is not like, when we die, everything is going to come to an end and we find ourselves in heaven. No, it is not like that. According to the Bible, there will be an amazing wedding ceremony. And that wedding ceremony is between Christ and the Church (all believers in Christ Jesus). It is a ceremony where the Lamb and the Bride (the Church) will be ONE. When we read Revelation chapter 19 – 21, we read the wedding ceremony of Jesus and His Bride, the Church, for the two to become one.
The full picture of this oneness is also portrayed on Ephesians 5, where Paul calls wives to be submissive to their husbands as the church submits to Christ; and husbands to love their wives as Jesus loved the church and died for her.
There is also one beautiful prayer Jesus prayed, recorded on the Gospel of John (John 17). Here is the clip:
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:20-21)
When we read the books of law (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy) we read all the traditions, ceremonies and offerings. And in the Book of Exodus, we read how God warned Moses to build the Tabernacle exactly as He showed to him on the mountain (Exodus 25:40).
Why did God care about that? He cared about it because the Tabernacle was the shadow of the thing that was yet to come; it was the shadow of the coming, dying and resurrection of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. “These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” (Colossians 2:17)
The Ark, the Table, the Lamp-stand, all the ceremonies, traditions, holidays and all the offerings (Burnt, Grain, Peace, Sin and Trespass offerings) were reflections of what was going to occur in the spiritual realm of the heavenly places (the birth, death and resurrection of God’s only Son). The shadow itself was so sacred that people and animals were put to death when they touched it without God’s permission or God’s “written code of conduct”. God cared for the shadow of His Son, Jesus Christ. It was not the actual Arc or the Tabernacle God cared about but what they were indicating or representing.
Today, the second coming of Christ, the wedding ceremony between Jesus and His Body (the church), and the consummation of Him and the Church, their oneness we all are waiting for; the shadow of all these things is represented or indicated by the marriage of one man and one woman (who believe in Christ Jesus).
God cares about marriage because it represents the finale of the fulfillment of all prophesies. When a husband and a wife become one, they are announcing to God and to all the spiritual beings that: the original Adam who was beaten to death by Satan is still alive because of Jesus’ death and resurrection; and the Last Adam, Jesus, is coming back soon to marry His Bride, the Church.
Yes, husband and wife’s oneness is the beautiful spiritual shadow of what is yet to come. They prophesy to this and the spiritual world that Jesus and His Church are going to be one soon; they are saying that the marvelous, glorious and majestic day is going to come soon.
Sex, between one man and one woman (who believe in Christ Jesus), is the scariest thing for the devil. He hates it. Couples who are in Christ, when they become one and continue to become one through sexual intimacy, they are pretty much running a “commercial” of Jesus’ return and His wedding and the same commercial indirectly announces the end of devil, forever.
Do you see why marriage is under attack? Do you see why the world is trying to deceive all of us into believing that watching sex on screen is one of the entertainments? Do you see how Satan tries to misrepresent sex as one of the commodities anybody can have at any age, anywhere, whenever, everywhere with anyone and anything?
Do you now see why sexual immorality is different from all other sins? Read carefully the following Bible verses:
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” (Hebrews 13:4)
When we choose sex or sexual pleasure outside marriage and the plan of God, we are destroying God’s temple (our body) and it is God who is going to come after us. So the best and safest thing for all of us to do is to FLEE from SEXUAL IMMORALITY.
Marriage is Gospel! Sexual intimacy, between married couple, is a delight to God but an insult to Satan! Their sexual intimacy is a sacrifice of worship to God but a slap in Satan’s face. Devil hates pure sexual intimacy. He hates anyone and everyone who proclaims the end of him. Oh, yes, devil hates sex. But, God loves sex.
The marital oneness of married couples is worship (what else is going on in the temple of God but worship?); it is a very sacred worship and the Holy Spirit always inhabits the worship of His people. ///
P.S. The title of this teaching was actually “God Loves Sex”. I changed it because I didn’t want to knock you off your seat. But when I present the whole message of this topic to live audience, I won’t change its original title which is “God Loves Sex”. Remember though one thing here: Satan passionately loves any sex that doesn’t glorify God.
