It is becoming the norm these days to notice new security cameras being emplaced in most shopping centers and even around small neighborhoods. Even yesterday, while I was driving around in my neighborhood, I noticed more than five new security cameras and I read a sign next to one of them that says something like, “security camera for your safety.”
Safety? Hmm!
Wow, almost all universities and all schools are now supervised by 24/7 security video cameras but school shooting drama is closer to becoming every day’s top news. Listening to the news in my car radio today about the Florida State University library shooting, I thought of those security video cameras; what their role could be in all these things. Sure they will give us the video they recorded; maybe how the three students were shot, from what angle and how the gunman was shot and killed by one of the police officers, but other than that what else can those security cameras do for us?
While thinking about what the parents of the gunman and the students who were shot today are going through, I thought of this verse:
“Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.” Psalms 127:1
Unless the Lord watches over our schools and neighborhoods, those security cameras work hard in vain! ///
