I love to read the story of King David, including his one day adulterous affair he had with the married woman and the consequences of that fateful day (2 Samuel 11 & 12).
David got anointed by God; not so he would be famous and renowned king which he was but so that God’s name would be known and praised as King David wipes out the enemy of God’s people. The best thing about this truth is that, David knew it all along! Listen to this:
“And David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and that his kingdom had been highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel.” (1 Chronicles 14:2)
And the interesting part of David’s anointing is that the enemies of God’s people, the Philistines, heard his anointing. Isn’t that exciting? It is not like King David updated his Facebook status saying, “I just got anointed by God today!”
Nah! He didn’t need to do that. The Philistines heard it; they felt it as their work started to shake and crumble down!
So, it reads like this (oh, how I love to read this): “When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they went up in full force to search for him . . . ” (1 Chronicles 14:8)
They didn’t just go out to meet him but they went up in “full force.”
My dearest, when the Philistines come out in full force, you can’t see any land because the land will be covered by soldiers and chariots.
But if you read the above verse, it doesn’t end with “they went up in full force to search for him.” It actually continues saying, “. . . but David heard about it and went out to meet them.”
A real MAN’s story!
He went out to meet his enemies!
When I read that, I said to myself, “Where did he go to meet them?”
Well, here is the answer: “Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim; So David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” (1 Chronicles 14:9-10a)
Wow! Did you see that!
And God said, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.” (Verse 10b)
David met his enemies in his prayer closet! He met them at the right spot and took the victory from their hands without them knowing about it. Then he came out to meet them on the battle ground as a lamb and destroyed all the wolves which covered the land.
Yeah, let’s meet our enemy where we need to meet him; in our prayer closet! Because that is the only place our enemy can’t fight back; that is the only place a real war is waged and a real and lasting victory is won! ///
