Whether a person steals a penny or one million dollar, his action is called a theft and he will be called a thief. A sin is a sin however you look at. There is no “one-sin” that is worse than the other. A sin is a sin! Period!
However, there is “one sin” that is different from all other sins.
Do you know that?
Read this:
“Flee from sexual immorality. ALL OTHER SINS a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18, capitalization is mine.)
“All other sins” a person commits are “outside the body,” except sexual sin. The place God originally created for sex to happen is on our bodies that are found in “one particular and specific environment.”
For example, there is no originally designed and created place that can make killing and stealing “holy actions” because there is no “a holy and confined place” that can sanctify the act of robbing or murdering.
But there is a holy place to have sex.
So, in effect, the above verse is saying that, you are from the beginning sexual beings and there is a right or holy place and environment for you to have that “sacred sex.” And that “God-designed” holy and confined place to have a holy sex is called marriage between one man and one woman. There, God ordained sexual pleasure that doesn’t bring along with it guilt, regret, fear, tension, depression, despair, suicidal thoughts, misery and more.
That means we need to run away or flee from any sexual activity that is done outside the confinement of marriage, [1 Corinthians 7:1-2] because it is an act totally against “our own bodies,” our own original creation.
It is like trying to use your smart phone while taking shower. Very dangerous! What made it dangerous is not the fact that you’re using your phone but the environment you choose to use your phone.
It is true that a sexually moral lifestyle is our original creation. And when we choose the immoral way, outside our original nature and design, we’re in a way throwing a bomb on ourselves, on our bodies, and expecting to enjoy life after that.
Why do we tend to forget this truth and go out to destroy ourselves?
Because our flesh and the devil trick us and tell us lies. “You guys are like married people. You love each other, you both go to church and sing and you will soon get married. So, having sex now should be okay,” kind of lies. If we give our ears to this kind of lies, we believe it because remember, faith comes from hearing (Romans 10:17).
Instead, let’s keep on hearing and listening to the truth of God so we believe it and live out what we believe.
For example, listen to this truth:
“May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
A loving doe, a graceful deer—
may her breasts satisfy you always,
may you ever be intoxicated with her love.” (Proverbs 5:18-19)
Wow! Talk about “blunt talking and straight shooting”, this is it! True sexual fulfillment and pleasure are found in the confinement of marriage between one man and one woman because God made it that way. Trying to find sexual pleasure “outside” that original design is like trying to jump off of a cliff thinking that one day you may successfully be able to fly. Nah! Trying to fly again and again won’t give you wings but pain since you are not originally created to fly.
Hmm! I like that analogy! ///
