When the Israelites sinned against God, many of them died getting bitten by venomous snakes. Then they came to Moses so he could pray for them. Moses prayed and “The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.” (Numbers 21:8-9)
Just like the Israelites, we all are bitten by the venomous snake called “sin” that killed the life of God in us, starting from the first Adam to the last one of us.
But God by His endless mercy and grace, He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, in the form of the “first Adam” not as a sinner but as innocent, sinless and holy Son of God. This second Adam died on the cross and took Adam’s death penalty.
Just as the Israeltes were healed of the snake bite when they looked at the bronze snake, so do we who are killed by “sin” if we look at the crucified Jesus, believe in Him and receive him as the propitiation of our sin.
Listen:
“No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” (John 3:13-15)
Do you have eternal life? ///
