For those of you who can’t understand Amharic, this is what I am saying in this video:

The word of God says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)

I thought this particular verse was saying that I had to say “In the name of Jesus” before I do or say something (like right before I put lipstick on my lips or wear a miniskirt so the spirit of the devil, particularly the spirit of lust, won’t attack meJ).

The common practice I see among Christians is to say this, right before they read the Bible (I used to say this too): “I will read the word of God in the name of Jesus.”

Well, the above verse is not telling us to do that.

Paul writes to Corinthians: “Whether ye eat or drink, or whatever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV)

Whatever we say or do, we need to ask ourselves: Does this action of mine or word of mine bring glory to God? If it doesn’t, the word of God teaches us to stay away from that. ///
