Every woman desires to marry a God-fearing man—and that desire is not only good, but I believe it’s God-given.
“7 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9 Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. . . 12 for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.”
—1 Corinthians 11:7-9, 12
By God’s design, women tend to be more spiritually inclined than men, and it makes sense that a woman would desire a man who truly fears God.
For the born-again Christian woman, this desire becomes even stronger because Scripture commands her to marry someone who shares her faith (see 2 Corinthians 6:14–18 and 1 Corinthians 7:39b: “she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord”).
A woman longs for a man who will protect, love, and lead her well. And rightly so—because a man who fears God will be trustworthy. She can feel safe with him and look forward to building a home and raising children with him.
✅ Her expectations are valid.
A man who truly fears God will strive to be emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually present for his wife and children.
But here’s the challenge:
Many men today are great performers. They’ve mastered the “Christian act.” They know how to sound spiritual, quote verses, even run around doing “ministry”—but behind the scenes, they are struggling with unrepentant sin and hidden double lives.
So today’s message is meant to help young women discern:
How can you identify a God-fearing man—not just by what he says, but by how he lives?
Two Key Points:
1. Be a God-Fearing Woman Yourself
Before looking for a God-fearing man, become a God-fearing woman.
Be rooted in Christ. Be part of a local church where you grow, serve, and are known. A lone-ranger Christian is at risk because she lacks spiritual community and counsel.
“The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.” —Proverbs 8:13
“By the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.” —Proverbs 16:6
“The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.” —Proverbs 15:33
A woman who fears God is better positioned to see clearly and avoid deception.
2. Look for Fruit, Not Flash
Don’t be fooled by hype or spiritual-sounding words.
A man’s fear of God is not shown in how loudly he talks about Jesus—but in how consistently he lives out the Word of God.
Red flags to watch out for:
-
He name-drops pastors and leaders to sound spiritual.
-
He overshares struggles for sympathy—not accountability.
-
He says spiritual things like “I can’t wait for Jesus to come” to emotionally win you over.
Beware of the man who plays the victim or acts overly humble to draw you in.
It takes a God-fearing woman to recognize a God-fearing man.
Your desire is beautiful, and God will honor it as you walk in truth. ///
