An Imposter!

Do you know the meaning of the word: “imposter?”

It means: a person who practices deception under an assumed character, identity, or name.

The one word that is very close to the word impostor is masquerade. And the word masquerade is defined as: false outward show; disguise.

A masquerade or an imposter leads a double life. He may look from the outside as someone who is a serious servant of God who doesn’t compromise but in his/her private life, he/she leads a sinful life.

Do you know if a person chooses to be an “imposter” he/she can get to the point where nobody can help him/her?

If for example a husband who is an imposter has a marriage problem and goes to marriage counseling, he presents himself to the counselor as someone who is very spiritual. And the counselor looks at his wife with a suspicious look that says, “Why are you complaining about this kind and spiritual man?”

Wow! Do you know that nobody can help an imposter, not even God? Nobody! Until he/she comes to his/her senses and says to him/herself, “Enough of this life,” he/she lives in darkness. It doesn’t matter if he/she goes to the church and gets involved in a ministry; he/she lives in darkness.

Do you know a big imposter? You guessed it! It is the devil! Listen what the Bible says:

“For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

Who are we lying to when we masquerade and impose? To no one but ourselves!

Abraham Lincoln once said, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”

That means God knows who we really are and other people will eventually come to know who we really are. So when we impose, we pretty much lying to nobody but to ourselves. Think about it!

Let’s be true to ourselves, others and God because that is where we find our healing. ///

Are you a Thermostat or a Thermometer?

A thermometer doesn’t have its own temperature. It tells you the surrounding temperature it is in.

If you stick it under your arm, it reads 98.9 degree Fahrenheit. If you take it out and stick the same thermometer in your deep freezer, it reads -20F. Why? It is a thermometer. It has no “temperature” of its own.

Well, that is not the story with a thermostat! Wow! Thermostat sets its own temperature and takes possession of its surrounding! Its surrounding won’t tell it at what temperature it needs to run! Oh, no! The thermostat itself tells its surrounding at what temperature it needs to exist! Continue reading Are you a Thermostat or a Thermometer?

Freedom of Speech on Social Media

I heard the news on my way back from my kids’ basketball game yesterday night. I wanted to write this before I went to bed because I was totally “SPENT.” So, as usual, I prayed so that God would give me this day to write about it. Praise the LORD! God gave this day!

So, on the news yesterday, they said that freedom of speech had to be “reevaluated” once more “because some people are using social media to “target and assault” individuals.” The lady who was interviewed (from my memory, not word by word) said, “Facebook and other social media are targeting, for example, women.” Continue reading Freedom of Speech on Social Media

“The devil is trying to keep me away from my call”

A4P Guest: I’ve been married for the last four years now. We have a 2 year old daughter and a one year old son. God and the things of God have a special place in my heart. And I know that God called me to a ministry, to get involved in counseling and leading the prayer group in our church. However it is getting very hard for me to attend church programs and prayer meetings because my kids cry a lot whenever I go out of the house and my husband doesn’t want me to get involved in any church ministry. Jesus said, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26 – and last week, I meditated this Bible verse for the whole day and decided to go to church for a prayer meeting, even if my kids were crying and my husband was pouting. When I got there, the pastor asked me to lead the prayer meeting and everybody was blessed beyond measure. So that night I realized that it was the devil who was behind all these; trying to keep me away from my call. Please tell me how I can fight the devil. I Can’t Keep My Cool

– – – because I am a woman!

Well, let me say this before somebody out there gets mad at me.

Some women can keep their cool from month to month and from year to year; and we are very thankful for them. But some of us are struggling at least for three or four days out of a month trying to keep our “nice attitude” from turning into a nightmare. And during those few days of the month, we scare the people who live with us to death.

My Berhan knows how to go around my mood but my kids used to struggle to understand it. When they were little, it was a very strange and sometimes scary moment for them. Continue reading I Can’t Keep My Cool

No Amount Of Perfection

One day our youngest son, I think he was second or third grade, came from school looking very sad. I took a quick look at his face and within a second knew there was something wrong with him.

When we got home, I called him to my bedroom and asked, “You look very sad. Is there something you want to talk about?” His eyes were actually ready to let it all out.

So, wiping his tears, he said, “So and so said to me, “Your Mama doesn’t look like a mother.”

Helping him wipe his tears, I asked him, “Did you ask him what your Mama looks like?”

“But Mom there is one thing missing- – – ”

I always love the time I have with my kids early in the morning. When I drop them off to school, I love the opportunity God is always giving me to be with them. While their brain is fresh and wide awake to absorb anything, I strive to speak truth to their hearts using every opportunity I get. We always pray as we drive to their school. We usually listen to the Christian radio channels, such as 95.1FM (WRBS), 91.9FM (WGTS) and 105.1FM (WAVA). I can’t tell you how much these radio stations changed my life and theirs for the better. May the LORD bless the people behind these stations! Continue reading “But Mom there is one thing missing- – – ”

Nakedness

It was few years back when our kids were very little. While I was reading one of those interesting psychology books, I don’t remember which one; I read that in every human heart, there is this deep seated desire to be naked. I said to myself, “You must be kidding me!” The author continued saying that not only we desire to be naked but we desire others to be naked as well.

I said to myself; “That is absurd!”

Well, I respectfully disagreed with the idea and moved on to the next one. But the idea kind of stayed with me. Then to my surprise, I noticed something.

Whoever Dwells in the Shelter of the Most High – Part I

Sitting in the dark room, in the middle of the night, he began sweating as if he ran five miles. The question which kept on coming in his mind was, “How did I end up here?”

He grew up in the church. He knows more Bible verses than most of his friends. Growing up, he was considered as one of the spiritual young men who could take a place of pastoral position or something. Even as a young lad, some people used to come and ask him to pray for them.

As his mother only son, his mother raised him as if he was the last man from human race. She didn’t let him go through circumcision until he turned thirteen. His father and uncle pressured his mother and she agreed to let him get circumcised at the age of thirteen. Continue reading Whoever Dwells in the Shelter of the Most High – Part I
