A4P: Wow! I’m so proud of you! So, how can I help you today?
A4P Guest: I’m so sorry Missy but I don’t think you would be proud of me if you read my whole message. Right after I spoke with you last time, within a month or two, I slept with my boyfriend and broke up with him after three weeks. Then I ended up dating another man and continued to sleep with him too, hoping that he’d marry me. Then we broke up and now I’m seeing another man that I’m sleeping with. He is a church man, involved in so many things in the church. We told the church that we wanted to get married and we were told that we could choose a specific date. Now, I am not excited to get married anymore. I’m scared.
A4P: Scared of what or who?
A4P Guest: I want to be sexually pure.
A4P: It is a good “want” and if I’m not mistaken, you said that to me last time too.
A4P Guest: I know.
A4P: So, what did you do to change that “want” into a passion that comes from knowing, fearing and loving Jesus Christ?
A4P Guest: Missy, I know you’re upset with me; but I don’t know what to do with myself. What do you think is my problem?
A4P: I don’t know if I call it “upset” but I’m sad because you are young and beautiful and if I’m not mistaken, you’ve told me last time that you had a good career. So, when I see people like you, destroying their beautiful lives, I can’t rejoice. I’m a mother of three young people, you know. Your parents have worked hard so that you wouldn’t end up in a shelter somewhere or worse. But look what’s happening to you. No one is responsible for this, not your parents, not God, not Satan or the men you’re sleeping with but you. You seem to know all the right answers for all good questions and you know your Bible well too. So, what do I think your problem is? I’m not exactly sure. I believe I’ve told you what I wanted to tell you last time and for some reason that didn’t stick with you. Please, hear me last. Stop taking comfort from what you know. The Bible says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives FREEDOM, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but DOING IT—THEY WILL BE BLESSED IN WHAT THEY DO.” (James 1:22-25 Capitalization is mine.)
And you can’t do life or follow Christ all by yourself, none of us can. You need other believers in your life, believers who are true followers of Jesus Christ.
“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, ALONG WITH THOSE WHO CALL ON THE LORD OUT OF A PURE HEART.” (2 Timothy 2:22 Capitalization is mine.)
Every girl and every young man I talk to who are in a similar situation are lonely people; or they are very far away from people who can hold them responsible and accountable for their own lives. So, please, for the sake of your life and your parents’ hard work, go back to the Shepherd of your soul before it is too late. ///
