Jesus Christ is our Savior. We cannot save ourselves.
How does Jesus save us from everyday life? Through His Spirit who works through His word and He also ministers to us through others.
My friends, as bread is needed daily for the health of our physical body, so is the word of God for our spirit and emotion.
As we are getting ready to say goodbye to this beautiful summer and soon to welcome fall and then winter, many people suffer from depression at the same time they welcome winter. This is the season we hear many people hurting themselves because of mental and emotional disturbance.
So, I made this video to create awareness among the Habesha community, especially among those who live in the East Coast. My friends, please let’s all educate ourselves about this side of life so we can help one another.
We all are okay seeking help when we suffer from stomach pain or headache but we are resistant to seek help when we are mentally and emotionally disturbed. Why? I am not really sure. I think we see our brain as the only organ that came out of the Garden of Eden without being affected by the fall. But that is not true. As our stomach, thyroid or lungs are affected by the fall, our brain is affected by the fall too. It needs help too and we need to reach out to others and ask for help in the same way we seek help when we get stomach pain.
We all are living in the same boat. There is no one unique person who got it all under control. We all need help from others once in a while and we shouldn’t be ashamed of that. Many people are quietly dying alone. Please reach out and seek help if you are in that situation. If you are haunted by the thought to hurt yourself, please seek help. There is counseling as well as medical help. Don’t say, “I will keep this in secret and I will find solution for it one day!” That is the devil whispering into your ears. It is okay to seek help.
If you are not in that kind of situation, make your Bible your best friend. There is nothing on this earth that can protect our minds and hearts like the word of God but we have to eat the word of God daily. The word of God says, “man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 8:3b, Matthew 4:4)
My friends, the Holy Spirit can only minister to us from the word of God that we hid in our hearts and minds. The word of God that we allow to live in our minds and hearts is a medicine that protects our minds and emotion. The word of God is the only armor we have that protects our minds. It is our helmet. “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17)
Let’s not run to our Bible only when we find ourselves in a problem. The Holy Spirit doesn’t work that way. Let’s always run to the Bible in the highs and lows of life so we see the move of the Holy Spirit in our lives, how He takes out the word of God from our hearts and destroys the devil’s trap and network. This is what the word of God teaches us: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) – the truth we know will set us free!
Going to sin is not a solution for depression and anxiety either. Changing boyfriends or going out of our marriages thinking that the love we get from the other person will help us. That will destroy our lives even more. So, please don’t use sin as a medication either.
Please seek help! May God help us all! ///
