A thermometer doesn’t have its own temperature. It tells you the surrounding temperature it is in.
If you stick it under your arm, it reads 98.9 degree Fahrenheit. If you take it out and stick the same thermometer in your deep freezer, it reads -20F. Why? It is a thermometer. It has no “temperature” of its own.
Well, that is not the story with a thermostat! Wow! Thermostat sets its own temperature and takes possession of its surrounding! Its surrounding won’t tell it at what temperature it needs to run! Oh, no! The thermostat itself tells its surrounding at what temperature it needs to exist! If you set your home thermostat at 72 degree, your home temperature will submit to the thermostat’s set value. It can’t say, “I want to keep my own temperature!” No, my dear, it can’t! The thermostat is in the house!
Thermostat takes over its surrounding.
Who are you? Does your surrounding change you or you change your surrounding?
Those who are “thermostats” have the following three “precious” biblical truths in their hearts: They know who God is; they know who they are in Christ, and above all, they know for what purpose they are here on earth.
Oh, they know that they are not just numbers! Wherever they are, their presence is always felt as they change, influence and impact their surroundings! Nothing changes them. They are thermostats!
Listen to the message of a man who is a “thermostat”:
“Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.” Habakkuk 3:17-18
Yes, it always feels good to be around people who are “thermostats” but it is excellent to be in the presence of a God whose love is like a thermostat. Listen:
“Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10
As we stay in Him, He not only makes our life “temperature” like His but He also changes us to be like Him, so that we be “thermostats” not “thermometers.”
Who are you? Are you a thermostat or a thermometer? I don’t know about you but I sure desire to be a thermostat. Being a thermometer is making me tired! ///
