A Wife of Noble Character

This clip is from the Q&A session of the Feb 18 married couples program held at the Sheraton Silver Spring Hotel. It is put together by the humble cameraman, Teddy Admassu. Thank you Teddy!

I love this particular question and I want to share it with you all. It says: “Okay, we understand that we have to be careful not to criticize our husbands; but when we want to tell them the wrong thing they keep on doing, how can we tell them or should we not at all tell them that either?”

I love it!

The Bible says, “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”  (Proverbs 31:10)

A wife of noble character, one of her identifying characters is that she knows the right time to say the hardest thing to her husband. She doesn’t criticize her husband after she leaves him with the kids for the whole day or at the end of the work day. She is very wise as to what time of the day her husband becomes more receptive for correction. And she knows that she has to communicate what she wants to tell him in a loving and respectful manner, not in a critical and judgmental spirit.

Then this wise wife will say to her husband, “Hun, I appreciate you very much for taking care of our kids in the morning; and making them all ready for school. You have no idea how much I appreciate you. But, when it comes to your shoes, what do you think we need to do so that you don’t leave them at the door? Maybe we need to buy some kind of shelf that we can put our shoes on. What do you think?”

Yes, a wise wife not only knows the right time to say what she wants to say but she also knows how to say it. As they say, “It is not what you say but how (or, the way) you say it that matters.” How true that is!

Where does this wisdom come from? Listen:

“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossian 2:2-3)///
