Some young girls get confused why their boyfriends don’t propose to them even after dating them for a year or two.
They complain, “I thought he was waiting for the Valentine’s Day but that day just passed; and I thought he would propose to me in the beginning of summer but that too passed. What should I need to do?”
I always ask:
“Why don’t you propose to him?” 🙂 Just kidding! – I wouldn’t say that in a million years! What? A woman proposing to a man? Are you serious?
Listen to what the Bible says:
“the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him” Genesis 2:18 NASB
“the woman is the glory of man. For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake.” 1 Corinthians 11:7b-9 NASB
Wow! Did you see that?
I, a woman, am created for my husband’s sake, not the other way around! If he doesn’t know that, he doesn’t need me and why do I want to be with the man who doesn’t need me? No brainer!
But I usually ask these young girls one question:
Do you give him all husband’s privileges? Because if you do, why does he need to propose to you? To make you what? You are already acting like his wife.
What are those husband’s privileges?
Let me show you some of them from the following three scenarios:
1. Boyfriend: “Let’s go for dinner? May I pick you up?
Girlfriend: “Now? It is 10pm. Instead, let’s meet up tomorrow morning for breakfast or lunch.”
2. Boyfriend: “I really want to take you out to the nearest resort where we can relax and enjoy ourselves. They have a beautiful swimming pool too. You told me that you love swimming, don’t you?”
Girlfriend: “I want to save that “relax-ment” for my honeymoon. There is a beautiful public park in our neighborhood. Why don’t you come over and I will buy us “out-of-this-world” kind of ice cream. What do you say?”
3, Boyfriend: “Let’s pray and worship God together on Skype tonight. May I call you around 9?”
Girlfriend: “We just worshiped God together with other believers in church; why do we need another worship service at 9pm on Skype?”
I call this young girl “a Shulamite Girl!” (Song of Solomon)
She knows her boundaries! When her boyfriend wants to cross her boundaries, she says, “No.” She knows where a boyfriend game ends and a husband game starts.
She doesn’t play, “I accidentally found myself in his bed” kind of game.
Her boundaries are drawn not in blurry colors so he won’t miss them.
But, listen to this: When a real and godly man sees this firmness from the girl he loves, he ain’t going anywhere. He sticks with her and with all her rules because he knows that all those treasures the girl is fighting to keep are going to be his soon!
So, he wastes no time. He proposes and marries her and makes her his. Then all those husband’s privileges, to see her at 10pm or 2am, with her clothes on or off, to take her to this resort or the other one, for three days or three months and more will be his because he is her husband. ///
