“We have freedom to express our love”

A4P Guest: I’m 26 years old and my boyfriend is 29. We both go to the same church and we are active in our church. My boyfriend teaches in the young adult’s ministry and I am one of the worship leaders in the adult’s congregation. My boyfriend and I don’t really believe that God is against our pleasure. If God is the One who has given us our desires, we believe that there is no way for Him to be against it. So we both have mutual understanding in this area and we have freedom to express our love to one another whenever we want to. We watch some videos to help us do that too. We are now getting married in March of 2017 and I was wondering if you can give us some premarital counseling so we know about marriage before we decide to find ourselves in it.

Does Age Difference Matter in a Marriage?

We can’t afford to ignore this issue just because it makes some people feel uncomfortable, can we? No, we can’t. And I believe, this issue matters more for those who are yet in the process of finding their lifelong partner than the people who already are married.

Let me first say this: As far as I know, there is no “age-difference” topic in the Bible. So, this is a simple answer for anyone who may ask for a Bible reference for the points I’m about to make. Some people argue, “If the Bible ignores this issue, we don’t need to talk about it.” And some say, “What matters the most is how much the couple loves each other.” Hmm! I better leave these lines of reasoning right here and move on to my point, not because I don’t want to deal with them but I may easily get sidetracked from the point I wanna make today trying to address them.

Is the Devil Out of His Mind?

I’m studying the book of Jeremiah during my morning devotion, but for some reason, these days I want to listen to the four Gospels whenever I get a chance to be in my car. So, yesterday afternoon, I was listening to the Gospel according to Matthew while driving to go somewhere.

After I listened to the first three chapters and the first part of chapter four, I totally zoned out, thinking of these two verses: “Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:8-9)

I felt like I’ve never read this passage before. I said: What? Who is offering what to Who here? Hold on a second! Is the devil out of his mind for trying to tempt Jesus this way?

“And Adam knew Eve his wife;”

Eve has a description. It doesn’t just say, Adam knew a girl named Eve.

Are you kidding? Oh, no, the Word of God doesn’t say that! It says, “And Adam knew Eve HIS WIFE;” (Genesis 4:1a KJV – capitalization is mine)

“And” shows that there were necessary events that had to occur before Adam “knew” his wife (the girl had to be publicly declared as “his wife”) and the semi colon (;) shows that “knowing” (making love, NIV) is not the end in and of itself. There is more blessing following it, depending on at what stage “the knowing” occurs.

Characteristics of a Romantic Christian Man

A4P Guest: “Missy, if you were single today, what would be the first three main characteristics you would be looking in a man?”

A4P: I love this question! Do you know why?

Well, I think I already told you this but one of the things I was looking in a man when I was single, young and “st- -d” was “six-pack abs”, lol. I know that is messed up!
