Mental Illness Awareness Month

The Month of May is known as a mental illness awareness month.

Why?

To save lives!

Some people hide their illness or deny its existence. They blame the devil for it and they go around looking for that “anointed man” to rebuke that devil away.

But these same people always seek medical help if their problem is below their neck, like for stomach pain or something.

Why? Mental illness is still a taboo in any society. People don’t want to talk about it. But do people still suffer from mental illness?

Yes! Hiding it, denying its presence won’t make it disappear.

So if you or your loved ones suffer from any form of mental and emotional illness, please seek help.

If you end up in an emergency room because you were planning to hurt yourself or someone and you were diagnosed by a medical person by mental or emotional illness such depression, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, please follow up with them or the one you choose.

For the sake of discussion, let’s take one example from a mental illness, bipolar depression.

What is bipolar depression?

“Bipolar depression is part of a larger condition called bipolar disorder. Specifically, the “lows” that you may be feeling, those moments of hopelessness, these are the possible symptoms of the depressive moments associated with bipolar disorder. Bipolar depression is a lifelong condition that creates unusual mood changes that can vary in length and severity. You can go from feeling revved up (feeling very energetic) and euphoric to feeling down and hopeless.”

Some people are married to people who are suffering with bipolar depression and they really don’t know what to do with them. They blame and try to fix themselves. They seek counseling but their situation continues to escalate.

If you or your loved ones are diagnosed with this illness, please make sure that you are under a licensed psychiatrist who can prescribe a medicine or combinations of medicines to help you lead a normal and balanced life. If your spouse refuses to seek help but wants to continue abusing you and your kids, it is good to seek help from civil authorities.

One major struggle with this particular illness is patients usually refuse to take their medicines for different reasons, usually not good reasons, “I know I am okay. It is just the devil is trying to kill me because I am specially anointed by God.”

Where do these people usually find “psedo-comfort” that encourages them not to take their medicines?

By going to churches where they will be told to rebuke “the doctor’s diagnose” itself and believe that they are okay to do life without seeking any medical help, just by coming to church and giving money to the man who always entertains people by his jokes and oratory skills.

This is very sad!

And when these people are in their euphoric state, they are very energetic and they contribute a lot to the church, physically, mentally, and financially. When they are in a depressive mood, they blame the devil and ask people to rebuke the devil with them.

Yes, I always say, all mental and emotional illnesses have direct and indirect correlation with our spiritual health. But concluding that it is the devil and encouraging people to rebuke their illnesses in the name of Jesus may not be the way to help everybody.

Some people may need to be on medications even to disciple them in the word of God (if there is anybody to disciple them in the word). Unfortunately some churches call discipleship by teaching and training people how to do miracles and speak in tongues, rebuke empty bank accounts so it will be filled with money, calling riches and prosperity into their lives in the name of Jesus. All these are done using Scriptures. This is not called discipling. I don’t even know what to call it. And teaching these kinds of things for a person who is mentally and emotionally disturbed make their conditions even worse.

So, please let’s do our part of creating this awareness among our circle of influence so the next person won’t take their lives because they didn’t get appropriate medicinal help.

Our community is suffering greatly because of this very thing. Let’s be the voice! Let’s help those who are suffering by guiding them in the right direction.

If it is we who are suffering, let’s seek help! God also works through medical professionals and medicinal products.

Nothing can say to God, “You cannot work through this,” for God is Sovereign!

“Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, You who have been borne by Me from birth And have been carried from the womb; Even to your old age I will be the same, And even to your graying years I will bear you! I have done it , and I will carry you ; And I will bear you and I will deliver you .” Isaiah 46:3-4 NASB

“I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever; For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom endures from generation to generation. “ All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, ‘ What have You done?’ Daniel 4:34-35 NASB ///
