You Have Not

The word of God says,

“You have not because you ask not.” James 4:2

?

Hmm!

Very straightforward, isn’t it?

I heard this verse today while talking to someone and I immediately began thinking about my morning prayers and I wondered if I prayed for the things I REALLY wanted from this life.

If I was a single person, as a Christian what I REALLY want is to find a life partner (please don’t say, “But I want to seek God and His Kingdom first.” – That is assumed here)

Do you know how many young and single people I talk to who are not praying for a spouse?

When I ask them why they don’t, they give me that “I have no clue” look.

And when I ask young married people if they prayed for a spouse before they got married, their usual answer is, “I did pray after I met her/him.”

Are you that young and single person who does not pray for a spouse, only knows how best to follow your feelings and emotions?

Well the word of God says, “You have not because you ask not.” James 4:2

Trust God, not your ever changing feelings and emotions, and ask God for a spouse! And formulate your prayers according to Scriptures, not according to your feelings and emotions: “Lord, please give me a wife who walks like a model; who always makes jokes and laughs, who has two degrees.” That is an example of ??I better not say it.

Instead pray, “Lord, please give me a wife who fears You, who puts You first in her life.”

The word of God says,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:5-8 NASB

One of the ways you are acknowledging God in all your ways is by praying according to the word of God.

Why according to the word of God?

Because we have a promise that reads like this: “if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” 1 John 5:14 NIV

God’s will for us is revealed in His word. And praying His word is praying His will. ///
