One-Flesh But Two Bank-Accounts

The word of God says,

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24 NASB

For what reason?

A woman was found from a man (1 Corinthians 11:8) and when the two come under a covenant relationship, they become “one-flesh.”

This one-flesh relationship has an eternal signature on it as it reflects the yet to come eternal relationship of Jesus Christ and the church. These two people, one man and one woman, do not have two lives but one because the husband represents the head and the woman represents the body as Christ is the head of the church and the church is the body of Christ.

“Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. . . So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,” Ephesians 5:22-23, 28-29 NASB

And can you just imagine then a husband hiding his income from his wife so he can get wealthy and happy apart from his wife? Or, a wife having a saving account that her husband has no idea about?

How can this couple receive any blessing from God while they are rejecting the very truth of God by the way they live? They can’t!

Some people say, “But I am hiding the money from my husband because if he sees the money, he spends it and my kids and I won’t have any saving.”

Or, they say, “I am hiding my income and 401K saving from my wife because she actually sent lots of money to her families without my knowledge. So, I don’t trust her anymore and cannot have any financial plan with her.”

Are these rational reasons to have separate bank accounts or separate financial plans? These reasons might be rational reasons for people of this world but for people who profess to believe in and follow the Lord Jesus Christ cannot be rational reasons. How can one solve his/her marital issues by destroying their marriages? Having two separate, hidden, plans and accounts will eventually destroy marriages because a “house divided against itself” cannot stand (Matthew 12:25).

What is important in the “fusing” together relationship of one man and one woman?

Their bodies!

To be one, they both willingly bring their bodies to the altar. How can, then, a man who is willing to give his body to his wife be unwilling to give/share his money with his wife; or vice versa?

This is nothing but insanity and the love of money can be the main cause of this. Listen:

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:6-11 NIV

Did you see that?

It says, “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” And there is nothing as evil as destroying this one-flesh relationship that God has joined! “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Mark 10:9 NIV

Are there recurring financial disagreements and conflicts in your marriages? Seek help so you can find a plan or a strategy that best works for your unique marriages. Otherwise, destroying your marriage cannot be a solution!

Do you know that finance is the number one cause of divorce here in America? Yes, it is! Why? Because of the love of money!

The word of God says, “But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness” 1 Timothy 6:11 NIV

Striving to know, love and fear God is the only antidote for the love of money. And since NONE of us are immune from the love of money, we always need to strive to know, love and fear God. These two, the love of God and the love money, always fight for our soul. The one who wins governs our lives.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24 NIV

May God help us all to always strive to make God, not money, the Master of our lives so we can build our lives, marriages and families on a firm foundation! ///
