Slain by Her

The Bible clearly warns a young man to run away from porn.

You can read Proverbs 5, 6, 7 and 9. And for today, let me share with you a passage or two from Proverbs 7 that touches my heart.

Just notice how the chapter starts:

“My son, keep my words
and treasure up my commandments with you;
keep my commandments and live;
keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and call insight your intimate friend,
to keep you from the forbidden woman,
from the adulteress with her smooth words.” Proverbs 7:1-5 ESV

The father is literally pleading with his young son to heed his words in his heart to safe his life.

“Treasure up” my words!

Keep them “as the apple of your eye!”

“Write them on the table of your heart!”

Why?

Because only MY WORD not your decision or will-power that can save you.

From what?

From the forbidden woman!

Wow! Did you see that?

The father seems to witness many mighty men falling at the doorstep of this forbidden woman, dead! So, he begs his son saying, do not be like them. Do not fool yourself. Only my word can save you! You cannot save yourself from her.

Then he went on telling him the power this forbidden woman has on every young so that he will be aware:

“She is loud and wayward;
her feet do not stay at home;
now in the street, now in the market,
and at every corner she lies in wait.
She seizes him and kisses him,
and with bold face she says to him,
“I had to offer sacrifices,
and today I have paid my vows;
so now I have come out to meet you,
to seek you eagerly, and I have found you.
I have spread my couch with coverings,
colored linens from Egyptian linen;
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh,
aloes, and cinnamon.
Come, let us take our fill of love till morning;
let us delight ourselves with love.” Proverbs 7:11-18 ESV

Who among men can say “Oh, no, thank you” for this kind of invitation once they are grabbed by the hands of this forbidden woman????

No man!

That is why the father pleads with his son. And he wraps up his pleading saying:

“And now, O sons, listen to me,
and be attentive to the words of my mouth.
Let not your heart turn aside to her ways;
do not stray into her paths,
for many a victim has she laid low,
and all her slain are a mighty throng.
Her house is the way to Sheol,
going down to the chambers of death.” Proverbs 7:24-27 ESV

Wow!

He said, “for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng” verse 26

He pretty much said to his son, don’t ever think that you have what it takes to win her. You will lose. What can save you is MY WORD! My word can save you from her OR she KEEPS you away from MY word and take you down.

Oh, my brothers and sisters in Christ, who do we have in this life but the word of God! Let’s hold on to the word of God. Power belong to no one but to the word of God! But if we push away and reject the only power we have, the word of God, who can save us from the evil one, especially in these dark and evil days!

I plead with you today then: Read/study and meditate on the word of God!

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage battle according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. ” 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 NASB ///
