Coronavirus is Not Sovereign!

Coronavirus is affecting every sector of our lives. As I told you yesterday, I was supposed to fly to Ethiopia but I had to cancel my flight. And now we all quarantine ourselves in our homes.

While we were talking about coronavirus and all that, my husband, my Berhan, and I decided to do a video to share with you one thing and one thing only: God’s sovereignty.

The Sovereignty of God has been the source of comfort for me these days, even so more now with the news of coronavirus.

God is sovereign means, nothing is done outside of His will and permission. God controls the universe, even the work of the evil. Isn’t that comforting to know?

And the Bible says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

That means, for us who are called to Him through Jesus Christ according to His purpose, no matter what happens in the world and in our lives, God is behind it and God makes it all to work together for our good!

I mean, I don’t know about you but for me, this truth of God is a big source of comfort and peace for me. Praise God!

As I talk about the sovereignty of God, I can’t help but think about those who are strangers to God and the things of God.

Are you that person who really don’t care about God or the things of God, like reading the Bible and going to church and all that and you always wonder what you’re doing on this page?

If you are that person, don’t worry.

None of us who claim to know and love God come to know and love Him by our own. The Bible says this:

“Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

“How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”” John 3:1-15

Do you see that?

It is God who gave us the new birth into His Son’s Kingdom.

Please read the above passage at least two or three times.

At the end of the above passage, Jesus mentioned a piece of Moses’ story from the Old Testament. Here is the story but let me give you some background.

Moses was leading the Israelites through the wilderness to take them to the Promised Land. But they rebelled against God and God’s messenger, Moses. They complained about their journey. They despised the food God was sending to them from heaven (manna).

So, they sinned against God. What did God do with them? Listen:

“They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”

Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.

The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.” Numbers 21:4-9

Did you see that?

And Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole.

What is on the pole? A bronze snake, an example of the snake that was killing the people.

Jesus brought this story to Nicodemus to explain His own crucifixion to save us from perishing because of sin. Jesus died on the cross taking the example of what is killing us, sin.

Listen what the Bible says:

“God made him[Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Wow!

Jesus became the very thing that is killing and destroying you and I, i.e., sin! He became sin for us on the cross so that we become the righteousness of God. Praise God!

We all come to this world being infected and plunged in sin. We sin because we are naturally sinners. Sin is imprinted on our DNA.

Jesus died on the cross to take away this dying nature of us and replace it with a new nature that will never perish. Whoever looks at Jesus, the crucified Jesus, trusting that He is the only Savior sent by God, by the word of God to save human being, shall be saved.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

And as Jesus Christ said to Nicodemus, this process of coming to Christ and be saved from eternal death forever is called being born into the Kingdom of God. This is called to be born again, or to be born from above.

As no one can give birth to him/herself, it is the same in the spiritual truth. None of us can give birth to ourselves into the Kingdom of God. It is the Spirit of God who gives us the new birth into the Kingdom of God. How? We really don’t know how or why.

What we know from what Jesus said to Nicodemus is this: The Spirit of God accomplishes this incredible work called “to be born again” sometimes using the preaching of those who are already born into the Kingdom of God.

So, who knows? Maybe God is the One who led your way into this message for you to read and respond to His nudging.

Yes, God is calling you through this post. We all die but we all do not go to the same place. Some go to hell and some go to heaven. All who are born from their mother and father will go to hell unless they are born again through the Spirit of God.

No one can go to heaven except through Jesus Christ. That is why Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

Look at to Jesus Christ and be saved, means receive eternal life and be the citizen of heaven.

Oh, how I pray that what I am sharing with you won’t sound to you one of those fairy tales.

The Bible says, “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” Hebrews 9:27

You give your attention to this post today or when you stand at the judgment, you may remember this post. It is my prayer that you give to this post your eyes, ears and heart and be saved today and now. ///
