Shameful Nakedness

The health of all our five senses, sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, is a good indicator of our general well-being. We are, at least physically, considered okay when all our five senses are healthy and function to their potential.

From five of our senses, one of them is considered as the lamp or light of the body.

If this one sense does not work well, the health of our whole body, our five vital organs (brain, heart, kidney, liver and lungs) as well as the rest of our senses, will be negatively affected.

That important sense is called “sight.” Sight means “the faculty or power of seeing.”

The word of God says:

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” Matthew 6:22

Wow! “Your whole body will be full of light.” That means, if your pair of eyes, the body part that gives the body the power of seeing, is healthy, the rest of your senses and all your vital organs rejoice and function well in the light.

Mind you! We are not talking about taking supplements to keep you healthy or going to a gym and workout every day or following the Weight Watchers Diet. We are just talking about keeping your eyes healthy.

And guess what?

Satan and this dark world want from us only one thing and one thing only: our pair of eyes. That is all! They don’t ask our money or our religion. They don’t argue with us as to who the true God is and all that. They just want our eyes and they do everything they can to get our pair of eyes.

Why?

Because they know that if we give them our pair of eyes, we bow down and worship their idols, we follow them as sheep follow their shepherd.

Why?

The doors that lead into our heart and mind are our five senses and from five of them, our eyes represent the main door.

That is why Jesus said,

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who LOOKS AT a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 6:27-28 (Capitalization is mine)

Hmm!

When a man looks at a woman lustfully (staring at her and imagining her and all that), he commits adultery with her in his heart.

His pair of eyes opens the main door that leads to his heart. Once his heart is taken over, it is a matter of time before the body accomplishes what was imagined and dwelt on in the mind.

The Bible does not say, “Above all else, guard your body,” because doing so doesn’t profit anyone anything; instead, it says,

“Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 23:4

Jesus, after saying how a man commits adultery in his heart by lusting after a woman, he said this: “If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” Matthew 5:29

Woah!

What is Jesus talking about?

He is talking about taking a radical step to train your eyes what to look and what not to look. This is called self-control which we all receive the spirit of it from God:

“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and SELF-CONTROL.” 2 Timothy 1:7 ESV (Capitalization is mine)

Spirit of self-control!

When we come to Christ, this spirit of self-control begins living in us, the fruit of which starts to show as we let the word of God abide in us and us in Him through the Holy Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and SELF-CONTROL. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (Capitalization is mine)

When a Christian loses the battle in training his eyes, he loses the battle in every area of his life. It doesn’t matter how much money he makes or how many degrees he has, if he surrenders his eyes to the devil and this dark world, he lives in darkness and his spiritual insight gets drown in sin.

Read the following passage of the word of God carefully:

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23

What am I trying to say here?

Porn and entertainment industries are after our eyes!

How are you doing in that department? Are they successfully owning your life and soul?

Don’t say, “I only watch for one minute or so like in a month or two?”

Can a person say, “I only take a drop of cyanide once   a month?” Think about it!

You may be a woman singing in your church choir but you sit and stare at your phone watching your favorite reality shows that are not appropriate for you to watch, to you who Jesus died for.

How can a Christian entertain him/herself with sins that Jesus Christ suffered and died for?

Let me close my note with this:

“You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” Revelation 3:17-18

It says, you are blind and His advice is, to put salve on your eyes so you can see. That salve is the word of God, the only medicine that can heal your soul and prevent your soul from future hurt and pain.

“I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11 ///
