A Great Marriage!

As they say, “There are only two kinds of marriages in this world, bad ones and great ones.”

There ain’t a perfect marriage because none of us are ” ” (well, fill in the blank).

The one feature of a great marriage is a marriage where both husband and wife learn to acknowledge, appreciate, accept, enjoy and celebrate each other’s imperfections.

Easier said than done, isn’t it? I know! But there is no other way if we want our marriages to be included in the “great marriage category.” I mean, think about it: Would the Bible have said to husbands to love their wives if their wives were perfect ones? (Ephesians 5:25)

No need to say that because if the wives were perfect in every way, their perfection itself would have demanded love without any command from God. But the Bible says, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” (Ephesians 5:25-27)

Hmm! Think about it!

Who needs washing and cleansing? Only the one who is dirty. Who needs a big sacrifice to be “radiant and holy”? Only the one who is dim and rusty, with wrinkle, blemish and faults.

And the Bible wouldn’t need to say, “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord,” (Ephesians 5:22) if husbands were to come with all perfect looks, qualities and traits of a perfect leader. No need of receiving a command to submit to such kind of a perfect leader. We just, by default, without any command or instruction, submit to him!

Do you see my point?

Yeah, until we get this truth, we live in a very frustrated marriage which is in “the bad marriage category.”

And do you know a concise way to saying, “enjoy each other’s imperfection?”

“Be humble!”

A humble spouse always says, “Wow! How thankful I am of God’s mercy and grace that help me find a life-partner who is willing to marry me and live with me and with all my imperfections!” ///
