“Born-again Christian Girls Don’t Attract Me Much”

A4P Guest: I am 23 years old, fourth year university student. I haven’t dated any girl so far and I think I know the reason. Well, I am a born-again Christian but I always find myself attracted to girls who are not born-again Christians. Frankly, I don’t find born-again Christian girls that much attractive. You know how the saying goes, “A girl who makes you feel relaxed is the girl you need to pursue.” Well, I don’t relax around Christian girls that much but whenever I’m around girls who are not born-again Christians, I see that spark of attraction. What do I need to do? I know what the Bible says about being yoked with unbelievers but I don’t know what to do with my feeling.

A4P: “A girl who makes you feel relaxed is a girl you need to pursue?” Hmm. Very interesting. I have never heard of this saying and I don’t know if I agree with it.

Anyways, so, you want “to feel relaxed” when you’re around a girl but Christian girls don’t seem to pull that off. For some reason, girls who are not born-again Christians seem to give you that “go ahead, be yourself! This is a judgement-free zone,” kind of signal and you feel like you come alive. Am I right?

A4P Guest: Yeap!

A4P: Just to make it clear, let me give you one example, I know it is not the exact incident that had happened to you but just example and tell me if you agree with the example. So, for example, when you try to make one funny but “dirty” joke around unbelievers, you’re cheered and you get, “Wow! You’re so funny!” But when you come to Christian girls and try to crack them up with that same joke, you earn yourself “What the heck” kind of look and you feel so out of place and even worse, you feel marginalized.

A4P Guest: Yes! Exactly!

A4P: Well, to tell you the truth, you must have been going to those real and authentic Christian girls because these days, it seems like everybody loves to watch the same comedy show and laughs to the same joke. So, I applaud those girls.

I hope you want me to tell you exactly what I think your problem is. Am I right?

A4P Guest: Absolutely.

Well, the word of God says, “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” (John 3:20-21)

Followers of Jesus Christ are the light of this world (Matthew 5:14). They won’t and shouldn’t make anyone who lives in darkness feel relaxed or at home.

So, my friend, I think the ball is in your court. It is time for you to search your heart and make things right with God. But I better not say much because John 3:20-21 should communicate the truth with you winsomely. ///
