Don’t Ever Forget This!

The word of God says: “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3:8b)

What is the devil’s work the word of God is referring to?

Sin!

Let’s read the whole verse:

“The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3:8)

Our lives were tightly, hopelessly, locked up in the chain of sin, the power of which was the written Law.

But, because of what Jesus had done on the Cross on our behalf, (breaking the power of sin, our indebtedness to the written law – Colossians 2:13-14), the chain has been broken.

Now, “THE BROKEN CHAIN OF SIN” lives in us. Don’t ever forget this!

Spurgeon said, “Even now though sin dwells in us, its power is broken.”

Paul writes: “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)

We are free from the power of sin through Christ but as they say, freedom is not a destiny but a responsibility. Unless we “keep standing firm” and fight for our freedom in the knowledge of Him who set us free, we lose it.

So, let’s always remember that the broken chain of sin lives in us and if we continue abiding in Christ, in His Word, and He in us, this broken chain can’t have any power and bearing on our lives.

Otherwise, as the Bible teaches us, while we are called to live in freedom, we will put ourselves back into a prison of sin, or “yoke of slavery”. ///
